You can find some great shots of the CAR-15s and Colt Commandos in Black Hawk Down. Also, they have a wonderful scene with the M-14 and a nice Red-Dot attached (sniper scene during the heli crash).

Biggest problem I have with the AK is that he said he wanted something modern looking. IMO, the only good looking AKs are the older style ones (either all wood, or wood w/ a side or underfolder). Great guns, but the "modernized" AKs just don't look right to me. I own both an SAR-1 and a custom built M4gery, so it's not like I'm taking sides here. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah?
I like the Krinkov's especially...

My fav. AK is the AKS-74u, too. :inlove: Older looks better, though.

Yes. I like the wood handguards and stocks. I never really took a liking to AR/M-16's. The M-14 is still my favorite military rifle. I should take some pictures of one of mine, I've got one with an unissued military NM "Big Red" stock.

Haha that looks pretty weird. No sense of proportion without the guy in there. Interesting. But I can't use it much. Not crazy looking enough. Too simple.. etc.

You likey shotguns?! How 'bout a Striker?

As an example the most widely used pistol in special operations is...come on now? Hint..a hundred year old design by a certain Mr. Browning that still kicks more ass with more accuracy than any other brands. From Detchment 1 to Delta to even the FBIs HR Team, it still gets the job done well. Of course you don't read too much about this in the news or your pistol mags or see it in cool action flicks so not many are aware. It's why I say that people that praise H&K over the other exellent manufacturers are those that "read" or "watch tv shows" but not those that "did" or are "doing".
I totally agree... sorry for getting into that "what's better" senario.

I would like to share how I developed my opinions... I try to "do" as much as I can. Granted, I haven't tried the M4 yet, but I've had the priviledge of having first hand experiences with the M-16, AR15, FN-FAL, HK 91, HK93, HK MP5K, Uzzi, CAR 15, HK UMP, etc. as well as a whole crap load of shotguns and handguns under the guidance of my friends who are FBI, SWAT, Vice, Gang Unit, Narco, and Navy SEALs.

Again, I'm not going to get into a "what is better" deal, but I just wanted to mention that my opinions are based on experience with the actual units mentioned as well as conversations with those who use them for a living.

Striker is awesome, it pwned zombies in Resident Evil 4 :codeak:

I don't know much about guns (never shot anything besides a .22), but what about the new Israeli gun the Tavor

The bullpup design makes it smaller and easier to handle in tight urban combat situations, its waterproof, ambidextrous, and comes standard with a reflex sight from the factory

Don't overlook the basic AK design. The AK is simply the most reliable military weapon of any design. Most of the planet's small arms combatants carry some variation of the Kalashnikov design. Custom competition rifle makers recently have begun incorporating the AK gas system in their weapons because of the extreme reliability and consistency of the AK gas system. There are many variations of the AK manufactured for military use, and several calibers. AK's get a poor reputation for accuracy, but most of the problem is usually real cheap ammo. I have AK's in 5.56 x 45 (.223, same as M-16) and 5.45 x 39 that are extremely accurate with good ammo. Custom guns can be had in .308 (7.62 x 51)

If your requirement is reliability in harsh battlefield conditions, then my number two choice would be M-14 style weapons. The M-14 design is basically an updated M1 Garand that can take a magazine. Garands and M-14 (M1A) rifles are my favorite to shoot. If you are interested, I could give you links to photos showing the M-14 in use today in Iraq and Afganistan. Very rugged, very reliable, very accurate. Hard hitting at long distances, it is being used as a squad sniper weapon.
Never seen an M14 with rails on it, much more modern looking. Anyway whats the difference between those scoped M14 you posted and an M21?

M21 is basically an M14 with a scope on it. They stopped using it around the 80s or something for the M24 and M40.

Weird, some of my posts don't go through.

Copper thanks for all those pics man.
I got enough to cover me now. I'll look into a few ones that look real interesting and start my research.

Maybe if my vehicles turn out ok I'll post the results :D

Yeah, thats why I'm confused. If they're the same thing what differentiates one from another? And according to wikipedia there's still some in use.

It's like the difference between an M9 and a 92FS (slant vs straight dust cover, and some EXTREMELY minor differences). You'd have to ask a real gun guru to point out the exact differences between the two as they're very small. As far as rails go, they can be added to just about any weapon on the market now-a-days.

We had a bunch of M-14s on loan overseas, but Clinton had 'em cut up instead of returned to the US.....also the CMP wanted to remove the go fast parts and offer them for sale to the public, but again that was denied by the same administration. We found out real fast that the NATO round could not compete with the reach out and touch someone killing power of the 7.62 x 39 (AK) round.... the bad guys figured out that they had an advantage in semi-long distance fire fights, so we whistled up whatever we had in the armory and re-fit the old M-14's with rails, scopes and bipods, and we are trying to put a "sniper" armed with the "new" M-21 in each squad sized group in the Marines, I've seen a few photos of these guys with the SAW gunner. Lots of these guys use equipment that is sent to them from home, you see a lot of variations of different aftermarket stuff, whatever helps seems to be OK to use.
You too can help our guys on the front line by donating gear:
http://www.americansnipers.org/
If you check the "items" section, you will see a few aftermarket M-14 parts....

I got to play with the suppressed and un-suppressed LEO models at the SHOT Show back around 2004 or so. They just feel so natural. I'd love to have one, but I'd have to buy it with the short barrel. With the gay laws we have in place, that means I'd have to go through all the hoops and add an extra $200+ or whatever the fee is now just because it has a shorter barrel.

SBR tax stamp......
If I was going to do that, I'd be sorely tempted to get my Class III dealer license, then I could go all the way and get a full auto model.

I can't get a Class III dealer license around here because of where I live. I'd have to open up a business somewhere else (besides my house) to do that. So far, I only have my C&R. Also, I can't get a full auto P90 because they're made after 86.
