That sounds really good, are you changing anything other than just switching from the neck to bridge pickup to achieve the difference in gain?

i think the neck bucker is split so it sounds more open and of course lower output. the bridge is just normal humbucker with higher output.
Yup. The neck bucker is split here, if not it would be (IMO) to dark and it is much more dynamic this way. Soloing at high gain is different story though, then I also prefer a non splitted neck humbucker.

Listening to you talk is like being back in mein Mutterland. :D I dig it, but I can't help but think the clean on your previous amp sounded better. The midgain tones are pretty cool, but it starts to get that woofy kinda sound on the low end once it's cranked with the pedals.

Hi Tom,

absolutely - I'm just after the crunch stuff which should clean up a bit by changing pickups. I will not change the clean of the other amp, thats for sure.

Thanks for watching.

The other amps have fantastic clean channel, but this one is just VINTAGE man! I love that you feel some grit in there.....not "break up" but grit........ like an old amp that has character.

yes, too much treble and my old ears want ear plugs inserted. i like the one ones remington makes for shooting. it knocks 30db's off the suck factor.  it does seem like the larger mic wants to push the low end a bit. damn transients. i have to be careful even when using a 57 micing live. if the proximity is making mud i just back the mic off a little.
it does seem odd that a trainwreck and a 65 amps are so different.. even though they both derived from ampeg circuits.
i guess i'd be more of a trainwreck fan. i just like more bottom end clarity.

Yeah Dave, but there are some things about the design which viewed thru modern glasses are not so cool. They do hiss a lot more than one would accept nowadays and IMO the poweramp is just too much overdriven. But we will see where I will end with thing later.

Nice stuff Olaf! I've owned a few wreck clones and this one nails the overall tone and feel. Trainwreck's aren't for everyone...either you love em' or hate em'.

You should do the video shoot while on holiday at 0800 from your just secured prime lunge area :D

I liked that alot, bet sc pups would make that clean real nice.

for a Trainwreck-ish amp? ;)

I had some spare parts and built this little sucker yesterday, an Express with PPIMV. The idea is to add these kind of sounds to my multi channel amps as channel 2 for the more bluesy stuff.

If you can't stand the kraut accent, skip to 0:55 :D
Thanks for watching, nice sunday

I agree, Paige. Thanks for watching.

LOL

Yeah, Scott.

I'm already tweaking it, but with "my standard" stuff it gets too stiff to be nice - and generations of modders would facepalming this statement as it is the known general rule for this design :D

I respectfully ask, how can you determine the feel from a clip? I can see tone and perhaps a bit of dynamic response, but feel?

Just how the notes would sustain when he held them. Trainwreck's are very touch sensitive amps....both subtle changes in pick attack and vibrato really can change their tone. It seems evident in that video to me...

Edit: dynamic response and feel very similiar tone descriptions to me...no?

Quoting myself here :D

Found how it works with a standard master volume at all levels.
I'm happy, I've found channel 2 for my next 4 channel amp build :D

Close I suppose, but I guess I've always viewed them as a bit different. Dynamic response is obvious...how the amp responds to changes in a guitars volume and how the player attacks the the strings (pick attack for most of us). I look at feel as more of a visceral thing. Its the tightness/looseness, immediacy/sag of an amps response...something that the listener doesn't necessarily get but the player "feels" it in the interaction between guitar and amp. Think of plugging into a blackface Fender vs. a Vox AC30...the Fender will have a much more immediate attack whereas the Vox will have a softer/spongier attack, but they'll both produce amazing clean or overdriven tones through somewhat similar dynamic responses. That's how I see it anyway.

That said I get what you are saying about the Wreck...the clones that I've checked out were awesome sounding but not easy to play by any means...they'll definitely keep you on your toes. I'm really looking forward to getting my Express.
