Problem With Purchase From Member

Hey folks. I'm the friend/tech that Shane is referring to. My side of the story is pretty short and simple.

When Shane bought the guitar he asked me if I would restring and drop it down 1/2 step like I do all of his guitars.
This past Monday morning I met Shane at the Fed Ex location near us where he picked it up, when I arrived he had already opened the box and checked the guitar for any shipping damage. We were both in a bit of a hurry as he was getting ready to go out of town and I had to get to work.
He gave me the guitar and I took it home, dropped it off and headed off to work.
When I got home that evening I took the guitar out of the case and got ready to restring it. I did not play it or check it as I was kind of in a hurry to finish it as I had some other things I needed to do.
I changed the strings on the guitar and removed the back plate as I was getting ready to tune and then adjust the springs. This is when I looked at the neck and noticed something odd. I quickly tuned it to A440 and looked at the neck again. At this point I sent Shane a text and told him that this neck has an issue and I didn't really want to adjust it as I didn't think I could fix it with a truss rod adjustment.
As you can see by the photos what the dilemma is here. This is not something that can be dialed out with the truss rod.
At no point did I disassemble or do anything that would cause this as has been suggested by the seller in the communication between he and Shane. I wouldn't even know how to begin to do that.

I just got off the phone with Giles and heard the whole story, there is two sides to it for sure.

I can understand the forum wanting the whole explanation, it is long and still ongoing...I'm sure he'll post more at the appropriate time.

Giles is a cool guy...great talking shop with him and his past history deserves the benefit of the doubt on this one, but that's just my opinion of course. Talking in person just illuminated the situation in a whole different light.

Mosh PM'd me his phone number and explained the whole thing to me from his side. Everything he says makes sense to me and it seems that there is a way for the buyer to work this out if he wants to. I understand why Mosh doesn't want to go into all of this on the forum now - would be way too much to explain in print. I know everyone wants a public explanation, but I know why he's not getting into this here now...

as someone with no vested interest, i would say you may have your 'side' of the story...but its not a great sign that you refuse to address the underlying issue but dont seem to have any problem revisiting the thread to take pot shots.

perhaps you didnt notice, but the tech you ridiculed simply posted factual information...never disparaged you, never said you were scamming, etc...you responded to fact by deflecting...

This is unfortunate. I just don't understand people using PP Gift on larger purchases, especially with someone they haven't dealt with before. Saving 3% just isn't worth having to deal with this shit in my humble opinion.

DRAMA! This is why I never use PayPal gift. If someone asks for it, I tack on the 2.9% or whatever and send the money through the normal payment. The few extra bucks is worth it to me. PayPal provides I useful service so I pay them for it.

One problem I see with this mess is how to do an "return." Had this been through normal PayPal, you could open a dispute or whatever and the money would be refunded I think once the seller gets the guitar back. Here, the seller can return the money, but how does he know he's getting the guitar back? Or the buyer can send the guitar, but how will he know he's getting the money back?

If his side of the story is so convincing why can't he tell it here? It would take minutes to type and and then he'd be done.

It's easy to be a good dude when things are going your way, how one deals with this type of situation says more about a persons character.

Bought Pagan Gold from one of your own (who also had a green so cal up in addition)supposedly mint. Aesthetically perfect but upon changing strings and dropping to E flat (not by me but a highly qualified RT member) discovered that there was a severe hump in the neck from first to six fret in high E. Unable to fix with a truss rod adjustment.

Yes, I saw the guitar, no I did not play it, no there is no buyer's remorse (as accused by the seller repeatedly through at least 40 paragraph texts over the course of the day and supposedly verified by over 10+ fellow RT members). So the Cliff notes version is that this was a scam by me and my tech is an idiot and incapable (offered his contact information to discuss and test his expertise since the seller, who has Jimmy Page's tech as his own and is obviously a master tech in his own right...but was belligerently refused), the guitar was supposedly received, taken apart screwed up intentionally and reassembled to get out of the purchase. Then requested a PDF of tech ticket for set up although told that the tech is a friend and does not charge me. Then a second tech ticket was requested. Draw your own conclusions as I'm sure at some point there will be a reply that spans several pages (if consistent with the emails and texts that I received over the entire day of trying to deal with this person). Will never do gifted pp again as there is no recourse for shit like this.
As an added bonus, the sale of these 2 guitars was to fund the purchase of a custom shop Vanilla Shake which is mysteriously back on EBay...so I messaged the seller of this guitar and yes the buyer flaked on the purchase. Big surprise

I've seen this before. It can happen when the truss-rod is set too tight while subjected to heat/humidity. Place a straight-edge against the side of the neck to check for bowing. Loosen the truss rod, and let it sit overnight... Check again.

Late 70's and early 80's one-piece BC Rich custom shop necks were notorious for this, which is why they went to stacked necks. Since most Strat style necks are usually one-piece, it's best to get quarter-sawn.
