No one's talking about this album?

Those that have is must be locked in a room tripping ballz listening to it.
I know that's what I'm doing.

At first I wasn't to keen on the album.

Then you end up falling down the rabbit hole the more you look inside.

The song I Appear Missing kind of frightens me. With it's eerie feel and almost savant musical genius execution.

Gone on this album is the grimy distorted bass tone, in exchange for a more traditional, thick, clear, pounding bass tone. Fitting IMHO.

I also love the risks they take on this release. Some horns, keyboard accents/highlights.
I hear it and say, "Oh wow, that's risky, and they pulled it off."
Nothing safely done here, with pure confidence in their art. Fantastic.

This album makes me listen, and play music differently. I'm don't just love it, I am thankful for it.

I'm really enjoying it.
Strange and different. His style of playing and writing fascinates me. Odd, creepy, cool.

Jury still out for me. They will never top their first two records (in my opinion).

It took me about 7 or so listens and then all of a sudden it clicked. That's how a lot of their albums are with me. This album in particular has some really well written tunes.

Love it.

I'd mentioned a couple weeks back that it was streaming on iTunes.

Awesome music.

I need to listen more to this band. I like the few tunes from them that I have heard.

Truly awesome album! Love it. Easily my fav album of 2013. Just keeps getting better with every listen. Also dig watching the animated short video story along with the album. Amazing work from josh and co.

yea I started thread awhile back right before it came out..I love it man its fantastic ..I think u summed up the album perfect! great great band for sure I picked up rated r last night on 180 gram lp! been wanting this on lp for ever

Pre-ordered it and gave it one listen through...eh, not sure yet. There were a few cool tunes and I'm sure it will grow on me but right now I'm not in love with it. Actually I don't even really want to listen again right now. When the time is right, I'll give it another chance.

It's about as good as the last few albums they've put out, which I consider good but not great. Nothing wrong with it; it just doesn't hit me the same way their early stuff did.

QOTSA has always been "mood music" for me. Simple and sort of a drone beat. But, a band I like to listen to sometime when the metal is too much. Downloaded the new one and skimmed briefly through it a few days ago. Definitely some driving music on it. Josh has an unmistakable voice and is unique.

I did get it over the weekend. I like it a lot better than Era Vulgaris, which never clicked with me for some reason. Then again, my favorite is Lullabies to Paralyze which never seems to be anyone else's favorite.

Im in the same boat. A bunch of friends rave about it, but I thought it was mehh. Lullabies and Songs For The Deaf were by far my favs.

I'm getting into it however a few songs popped right of the bat for me. I enjoy QOTSA :)

I think the QOTSA have evolved past their early sound. So it's important that the listener recognizes that and evolves with them. They aren't relying on those driving bass line riffs and radio accessible hooks to propel a song forward.

This album is more mature, complex and layered. They touched on this with Era Vulgaris but are now in full swing. Mesmerizing guitar tracks that carry you through an ocean of wonder. Some atmospheric, some chaotic, some dream like, some visceral. There is also that cool desert swagger we all love too.

It is an "interesting" release. Its differences pull you back to revisit them and by like the 3rd time through you're all

I've always appreciated QOTSA. I loved Kyuss too.

I haven't bought it, but have stayed away based on the sample clips. I'm sure it's a great album in its own right, but I keep coming away from the more recent albums wishing it was one of the first 3 again. For me, Rated R was the pinnacle. But I love the first album and Songs for the Deaf as well. Everything since, only a handful of songs were compelling for many repeated listens.

Then again, I LOVE Kyuss so maybe I'm stuck in the past!

Saw some clips but never went for the whole album maybe when i have a trip lined up to drive across the desert i'll go out and buy it. i like the addition of theodore on drums, that man is a machine

Not as "desert like" as their previous stuff. The early stuff was more "high school." The new one is more "Med. school."
