Hey Dave, what are the Pro's & Con's of running a variac with my Friedman JMP?

My AC line voltage runs about 112 to 116 vac, i hear so many stories of running a variac at 90 volts, does it make a difference?

Also, if i were running a Silverface Fender Twin ultralinear [135 watts] AB/Y would i run the Fender at 90 volts too or just the Friedman Marshall?

If you are going to drop the AC rebias the tubes up or they will be cold when you drop the line voltage. Don't forget to lower it if you bring it back up. Won't hurt the Fender either.

If i don't rebias what will happen? Will it hurt the tubes? Will the 6.3 volt heaters be lower to like 4 or 5 volts needing longer to warm up?

Also my tech always bias's my amps a "little hot" does that make a difference?

It won't hurt the tubes but like Gary said it'll be running cold.

So you can't get a Brown Sound @ 90 volts w/a cold bias? I thought maybe that was the point, i dunno?
