What??? You mean you dont like porn? Whats wrong with you? I thought the internet was invented so that porn was easier to access than all of those magazines at the seedy stores with no windows

Dude, we were just kidding.

LOL, LOL I like porn when I'm looking for it ..... Just from past experience with some people I know who went in that direction on a website they created and still pay for it now and it's been years since ... so, when I speed read through the threads I toke it as a liable suggestion....SORRY....keeping my guard up....LOL....I don't even know how to add smillies :-) ....yet...lol

A guitarslinger / Digi Jams 80s forum with full blown hookers and COKE machines in the lobby

A new window when you hit a link would be cool.

I have a feeling that the classifieds get more views than some think and yeah I like like the pay to make dough here thing.

I'm totally in. Can we have like a custom neon pink/neon green layout in that forum?

Must use at least 6 spaces of rack gear to post.

Most own at least two neon coloured guitars to view.

and the rack gear has to be 80s stuff, none of this axe-fx fancy stuff  :D

Must own either a Kramer or wizard neck Ibanez in stadium neon.

Power amps less than 100 watts need not apply

Enough about that what other features would you guys like to see?

How about a message board for gear that's been stolen? I realize the posts would be minimal.....but it would turn into a pretty good archive without taking up too much space. (just a thought)

I think a fixed fee for full feature access is an okay idea (not too big on $50, though). But I think you should allow for a "donation" to become a premium member of some sort. Just let people donate $2, 5, 10, etc. at a time through PayPal.
You may find you get more money, because more people would give you $2 or $5 instead of $25-50.

Also, could we have a forum for posting deals on gear? By this, I mean when there's a killer deal on something online, people can post to let everyone else know! For instance, Canadians might be interested to know that everything at Axemusic.com is 5% off right now (ie. no GST) for a Boxing Week/Year End sale.

I'm a lurker mostly (i check classifieds frequently), but I love the direction this site is going and it's potential.

Great work! Keep it up!
Thanks

Well I believe having too many different memberships is kind of frustrating (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinun) it's just too much. I'd stick to Standard - Gold - Platinum.

I wouldn't ask ANY money for the Standard membership, since new members are "trying out" the site, and no one wants to pay to try something out.

There's a concept in marketing called "move the free line" and basically states, that if you give away A LOT of very valuable :insert here what you market: people will then pay A LOT more and more gladly when you present them with something they should pay.

As to what I'd like to see new.....

- A Picture forum, here you can post your own pics, family rig photos, etc etc..
- Babble Forum, here you can talk, post ANYTHING you want unrelated to music......you found some cool ass vids in you tube, post em here and make everyone laugh.

Oh, something I WOULDN'T like to see:

separate Amp/Guitar forums...... it just divides the forum too much.... look at HC

OR.......

you could take us up on our offer to do another HBE Rig-Talk pedal, to handle the forum fees, then charge like $10 & $20 a year for the "contributing members" areas, and that way you could charge a lesser amount, and more people would be able to or willing to pay a fee.

Just a thought.

To be honest, I like it like it is right now. If you decide to charge Brad, I will contribute. I would anyway just to keep the site rolling. Seems like everyone has a million ideas but I think the layout, content and implementation of the site is pretty much dialed in right now. Adding too many things will make it cluttered and harder to use and you will never please everybody anyways..
My $.02, Add the subscription (in some form) and maybe change the appearance a little. Maybe add a couple more manufacturers. Feature-wise, I don't see anything glaringly absent.

One of my woodworking sites has a feature on it that allows registered users to mark a forum as a "favorite".
At the bottom of the page is an option to "show favorites" only showing the forums you're only interested in viewing. Pretty handy. Keeps your home page less cluttered.
A custom feature like this could be a gold or platinum level offering.

I tend to agree with Muudrock that this is pretty well dialed in nicely. Being a fairly new member, I gravitated here because of the way things are layed out and consider this my main source for gear classified, etc more so than the Gear Page and Harmony Central. That being said I suppose I'd have to see what you gain for the cost of membership to make a good decision but $50 seems a bit high on the surface. I would hope the manufacturers are paying something to support this site as they gain an enormous audience without spending a dime on marketing, I would also say that sponsers shouldn't be too hard to find that would love to advertise to 4,000+ gearheads to offset costs. The changes made thus far have been great but I wouldn't go too far too fast. Just my opinion but open to change if it's for the better. Thanks.

I thought kurtsstuff asked something about the search feature and I responded, trying to figure out what he was asking. His post is gone too. Unless I just imagined all of that.

In all seriousness though, deleting posts without notification/explanation is one new 'feature' I definitely don't want to see. :)

That makes more sense now and I agree 1000% with the free speech unless it is is way over the top and I wont censor anyone unless it breaks the rules of the site.

Kurt being a new MOD was a little trigger happy in the beginning deleting "sold classified threads" and cleaning things up here and there. I have spoke to him and he has agreed to not be so eager and efficient.

Might be under a different "Topic" search his name and his latest replies to topics, you might find it that way.

One thing I've liked on another gun related forum (ar15.com) is that buying and selling feedback is kept in a separate sub forum and moderated. There is a running list of people sorted alphabetically by their user name and feedback is tracked. It's almost as dependable as e-bay without the fees. Manufacture/online retailers are also included in the feedback if they have a screen name that's representative of their company.

Manufactures/retailers pay a small fee to have advertising banners on the main forum pages and dedicated forums. Also they can post threads and sell their stuff on the spam forums. Their thread titles are highlighted to make them stand out from the regular members in the spam forums. There are pretty strict rules about posting in the spam forum, but anyone can post spam.

Membership is free, but team members pay a small fee per year to be eligible for manufacturer/retailer sponsored give aways, advanced search functions (you need to be a member to be able to search the general discussion forum), and access to the "not safe for work" forum.

Keep gun topics off of here. I am searching for another gun vault cause they are as addictive as guitar stuff. :D I have one room dead bolted with a steel door just for guns and guitars  Oh yeah its the MAN CAVEEEEEEE also my theater room. :D

I dislike the idea of a membership fee to post here. I can see charging to sell stuff. Maybe charge a flat fee (like $5) to start a thread in the classifieds. I like the fund raising idea like the Plank Cranker. Running banners and charging for ad space (ala porn sites) is a proven way to generate revenue though it adds clutter. Maybe take a cue off HC and use a form for gear reviews. I made an attempt in the rack gear section but found it tedious to format it.

Nobody is suggesting any kind of fee to be a member of the rig-talk forums, If you choose to support the site it is appreciated and your choice.

Anybody can join for free, post all they want with the exception of the classifieds and have a good time. The Supporting Memberships are totally optional and give the guys who do support the site a few extra features like starting threads in the classifieds.

Trust me becoming a supporting member will be 100% optional and I will make sure there are a couple price point options and be very very inexpensive for the year.

More to come...
