I will pay whatever membership fee is needed..hell, I will even contribute more if needed. I did it before and have no trouble doing it again. I love this place.

However requiring membership fees to have access to the classified section is not a good idea given current traffic IMHO. I pay the fee to sell at TGP because A LOT of people look at that forum. Not sure that is the case here....YET.

2 things I would like to see:

Please make it so you don't have to refresh when hitting the back button from a thread to the forum.

Also a preview pain similar to HC is nice.

Thanks!
Tony

I dislike the idea of a membership fee to post here. I can see charging to sell stuff. Maybe charge a flat fee (like $5) to start a thread in the classifieds. I like the fund raising idea like the Plank Cranker. Running banners and charging for ad space (ala porn sites) is a proven way to generate revenue though it adds clutter. Maybe take a cue off HC and use a form for gear reviews. I made an attempt in the rack gear section but found it tedious to format it.

I like the simplicity of this site. I think adding banners and ad space will cheapen what we have here. I like the set up and actually have logins for HC, TGP, hugeracksinc and a few others. I rarely visit these sites because of their format or i feel like I am being bombarded with manufactures ads. As far as ads go, one it takes your page longer to down load and everyone here interested in a product will browse Guitar Center,Sweet water, Musicians Friends, one of the five stores that sell Egnater, etc. We are the ads, we are musicians that tell others what we think about something we saw or bought. Fund raisers are ok but i have weeded out my pedals for a TC G system (others buying the AXE FX) I am down to a few pedals and It is hard for me to buy a pedal for a couple hundred dollars to help support a group. You have to balance the idea of a dozen or so pedals at $200 (and time/material to build them) over 60% of the members with some degree of paid membership starting at $10 (2 packs of cigs, 12 pack of beer, lottery tickets). You dont have to be a paying member to post 4-6 classified ads,if you are posting that or more than you should be able to afford $10. If you sell on evil bay it is 3 precent to post and then a final fee after the sale, your almost there. That is 84 cents a month or as my insurance company would do it to make me feel better about being raped 1 dollar a month for 10 months and the last 2 months for free.lol

Not a feature, but I don't like the off topic threads being moved to the off topic forum at all. I think that's a huge part of the appeal of this forum, that we can talk about a lot things besides amps. Nobody really ever goes to the off topic forum IMO.

Hey Brad, everyone here records in one way or another, what about a recording section? I think it would be valuable input for everyone, without going to some other recording-specific forums. ( which I do on occaision ) We have some guys here who have done some great stuff, maybe they would be willing to share some stuff. It seems somthing like that would generate its own traffic - Jim

Jim, I talked to Brad about setting something like this up a few weeks ago, but never got around to setting it up. :scared: :aww:  I was thinking about having a section for people to upload backing tracks they have, having a weekly jam, clips section, recording info, etc, etc. Like I said, I never set it up though. Guess I got lazy. :aww:

That would be more than I was hoping for ( again! ) That would be awesome, I'm sure there would be a lot more to setting that up, but it would be cool. I dont know of any other forum that has that. - Jim

We are working on the back end heavily now. we will add this feature in the coming months  J.B. you gonna run with this one?

How about a section for Recording Q and A, Ideas, could also be listed by Brand of Digital or analog Equipment, Tascam, Fostex, Roland/Boss, Misc. ect.

Yeah I second that. Or 1st and 3rd it :D

I'd rather have one fast moving forum (like this Rig-Talk one) than 10 slow moving forums, but that may just be me. I actually liked seeing for sale ads, clip posts, amp reviews, etc... all in one forum. Made it more interesting to me.

I agree 1,000,000% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See Thump I don't always disagree with you ;)

With the seperate sections for clips, they will just never really be heard. I've checked this forum everyday for months. I've checked the "Clips" section maybe twice so far and I love listening to forumites clips.

I agree with both of you. One fast moving forum with everything RULES!

I wouldn't want anything to change the speed and i really like everything we have here also. You have done some great improvements since taking over the reigns.

how bout a tutorial section, where pro players and builders give advice or how to´s. Like how to get a certain chorus sound or most use out of your rack equipment.

It really appears that with this many ideas floating around, and the work involved with the changes , Brad maybe we should have a poll that runs a given number of days, to see if the majority would participate enough to warrant the work involved. JB would have a lot on his plate to set up what we were discussing earlier, I would hate to see him put all that effort in, then be dissapointed at the results of all his work. A poll would be a easy way to get quick decisive answers before all the work is done. Thump has a good point about people not using available separate forums in the past. I have to admit, I am guilty of mostly staying on the main forum, and I'm sure many would say the same. Keep up the good work - Jim

If rig-talk is going to move to the next level it should have multiple forums...guitars, amps, etc... that will in time attract more people and traffic.
You can always just hit http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/search.php?search_id=newposts to see everything on one page.

LOL... We had separate forums and just changed it to one main "Rig-Talk" forum not too long ago. Allowing everyone to post anything they wanted in the main "Rig-Talk" forum made everything move MUCH faster. I can already feel this board slowing down, but maybe it's just me?
Growing pains are going to happen...will be a bunch of slower moving forums for a while until more traffic enters.
I like formats of the Gear Page and Harmony Central, how they have multiple forums to browse through.
If this place is just an amp forum then it could just be that too, but if I ran it I'd want it to be broader ranged for all musicians (eventually bass players, keyboard players) need to walk then run I think, small changes at a time.

So I guess the question is...is this just an amp forum or a musicians forum?

You know (just my opinion) I think for Brad to get this place to the next level there needs to be more gear talk and less off-topic stuff and cliques. This may offend the many regulars that just come here to hang with friends and kill spare time...but new people (who 'we' want to join the forum) could see this place as a way off topic place and pass it by.

I couldn't agree more

Keep the off-topic subforum, fine, but let's not pollute the gear areas with that stuff.

Thats probably the biggest factor that ruined HC, so much off topic shit. Emphasis on shit.
