I have an Excalibur Custom.

I'm not sure whether I like the zero fret, particularly since mine has a little wear on it that causes a "click" when I bend my E and B strings

oh shit, maybe I don't want one :aww:

To be fair, I have heard of no other complaints like this and quite frankly, I don't believe for a minute that the tech at Salwender really replaced that fret. The symptom was EXACTLY the same after the "replacement." The same tech screwed up the wiring in my guitar. I love Uwe, but I must admit that I became a bit soured after that experience. The problem was I could not buy the fret directly from Vigier to do it myself. Frustrating, overall...

As I said though, I know of nobody else that has had this problem.

Thanks for the info. Since Bob also talked about the Excalibur Custom that might be the way to go. I really don't abuse the whammy too much but they are great to have. Custom or SL?

One item of note: I prefer the body of the Excalibur Original because of the forearm relief. I ended up adding one to my Custom. :)

But, I preferred the sound of my Custom to the Original I owned. Sorry to complicate it. :)

What are the frets made out of - regular nickel? If I had a guitar with a zero fret, I'd see about having just that one fret replaced with a stainless one, would likely solve any wear issues. Bob, I bet you have a lot of good luthiers to choose from in your area to have that zero fret replaced.

I'm actually getting super spoiled with my andersons having stainless frets, it's like sliding on ice when I do bends, go back to another guitar and it's like sliding on carpet. :(

Wow, I figured stainless frets were damn near invulnerable. Even on a zero fret where it's always rubbing. I have a steinberger with a zero fret and regular nickel frets, and it hasn't shown any wear there at all. I wonder if there are different 'hardnesses' of stainless frets? Hm.
