had more bite
what was your recording chain?

GTR (Axis with a JB in the bridge) -> Maxon OD808 -> Splawn Quickrod -> Mojotone 4x12 loaded with Reissue GB's
SM-57 and AT2020 -> Yamaha I88X -> PC running Cubase SX. No fx or eq.

the JJ has some Harmonic content missing in the other.

they all have thier merits. i not much of a JJ fan at all, but will use one of thier preamp tubes every once in awhile.

have heard that the GT Mullard is better than the Mullard RI, but who knows?

the Mullard RI is just kindda allright to me, but really don't see it doing anything that a Sovtek LP won't do at half the price.

I had a funny feeling everyone would like the 2nd clip better. Last night I liked clip 1... maybe I'm nuts... LOL! :D

I liked the second clip better. Did you touch any of the amp controls?

Here is somthing I think is important... every tube will sound different, so I always adjust the treble, mids and bass controls to see what the new tube is doing vs another setting. ;)

Nope... didn't touch the controls at all...
I figured that everyone would like the 2nd clip better.
I just found an RFT I'm going to pop in the V1 along with the ECC803S.

Last night I tinkered with my Cameron Aldrich and changed out all of the C9's with Tung-sols. Within 5 minutes I took all of the tung-sols out. They are a bit smoother, but I really like the highend and gain of the C9's. I really dont like NOS tubes in either Cameron MArshall I have. Believe it or not, NOS preamp tubes make things too tight. I slapped a pair of old Mullards in the Jose and the amp was a lot tighter. I tried NOS pres and it was actually kinda hard to play. ONce the C9's were back in, the amp sounded better. All of my stock Marshalls have NOS tubes...including the JCM800.

I can see the NOS tubes being really tight. I have a couple Mullards that Adam (Randy Van Sykes) sent in the purple SL when I bought them and those are GREAT! They really shine in that amp. I've taken them out in an effort to find something that's more reasonably priced and comparatively close tone-wise. I ended up putting on in the V1 along with a couple C9's and it sounded really good. I may put one in the Splawn in the V1 to see how it works.

The C9's were entirely too bright in the Splawn. Good thing I had a few to try before I ordered a whole mess of them. They sound awesome in the Bogner (which is darker).

1st clip was kind of flat around the upper and lower end in comparison to the second clip.

Try two TungSol's...
