During the cold spell we had I had been fooling with some pickup swaps and stuff. Everything was working otherwise good but there was this odd muffling effect happening that was really bothering me. After several pup swaps I was starting to think I had lost a bunch of the high end off my hearing because I was sampling some pretty bright buckers at volume and it was mud.. Just glancing over my rig I realized I had a blanket over the speakers so I took it off and man, HUGE improvement. If you are getting muddy tone you might just want to check that your comforter or quilt ain't hung over your amp. It's like putting a blanket over the speakers in terms of what it will do to degrade your sound. Worth double checking for it especially before a gig or other live performance. I wonder how many thousands of dollars guitarists have spent chasing clarity and articulation in their signal chain yet never bothering to check for something so obvious?
