Quiet playing vs Silent recording

I have read a lot of information online about how to play quiet through a tube head. Many will buy a tube head and just not plug in a cabinet to play quieter. This seems legit.

As far as silent recording goes, I am curious what ohm selection to put the amp on when running from the output of the amp to the Audio interface. I plugged it in, selected the 16 ohm, and when I started playing, I couldn't hear anything through the headphones, but the interface exploded and started a fire. I am guessing I either used the wrong Ohm selection or had the master too high.

You can't just plug the speaker output from an amp into a recording interface line in. You need something like an attenuator with a line out or a Powerstation to do this.

Exactly. I can't tell if this is a joke/troll thread or not but just so no one else does any damage, please make sure you have an interface that can handle the output load of the tube head. The power tubes and output transformer must have some place to 'send' or balance that load.

I remember back when I first got into guitar a bunch of guys would come on the forum and ask if they needed a cab because they weren't planning on playing the head very loud. I assume they thought that it had speakers in it?? I was just recreating some of the nonsense I have heard for fun.

I figured. Cheers bro

Everybody knows you’re supposed to use the line out for recording direct.

Don’t be dumb and leave the speaker jacks unplugged though. The tone will escape that way. It’s best to take a single cable and plug the ends into both speaker jacks, like plugging up leaks in a bucket.

Also useful for carrying your amp around like the ultimate man purse
