The midi problem you speak of supposedly is caused by plugging in the midi controller AFTER you turn the amp on, your supposed to do this before it's powered on and the board it self shouldn't blow up there are just a couple fuses on the board it self I don't know why the entire board would go bad.

this was the first question they always asked, we were not plugging in the controller after , simply perusing the manual had that information. they wound up having to fly a tech out to make sure we weren't the issue. it literally got the point that the artists were not allowed to touch em to be sure only me.

if there not made in china im really even more disappointed though I swear i thought the rep told me they were, i could be wrong. that would have been a good excuse in my eyes.

as for the artists well free is free, and they DID replace them whenever we needed to, that just happened to be far too often.

I would imagine the circuit boards are made in China but I'm 99% sure the amp said made in the USA on the back, doesn't mean the boards are though that's not unusual. Also I'm damn near positive the trannys are made in China because almost any US made trannies are very expensive especially for the size.

To bad you had such a bad experience with it man, they IMO are good amps blow away any modern production Marhalls not build as well as Mesa's but are they are good amps, maybe the early ones were just bad or something?

Wow! Quite a discussion. I learned a few things about the MTS amps. Even so, I'm not interested enough in trying one out again. I've tried so many things over the years, and used to be one of those guys who believed you shouldn't get married to a logo. After wasting tons of money and going through countless amps and guitars, I came to realize that nothing is like the real thing.

I've tried Ceriatones and expensive Marshall boutiques, but till this day there's nothing like plugging in my JCM800. I totally dig it. If someone says something about me being hung up on the Marshall logo, blah blah blah, I say yeah of course I am because I know Marshall makes the best Marshalls. I've tried it all, Bogner and Soldano clones, amp modeling, etc...

In the end, I ended up buying Bogner, Marshall, Mesa Boogie and soon a Fender. There is no substitute. That's it for me in my mind, however I could see how an MTS might suit someone whose satisfied enough with getting somewhere in the ballpark of tone.

Perhaps the MTS is a great bargain. I won't badmouth their amps. I'll just sum it up by saying that they're not for me.

That's definitely an improvement. Either you have some kind of mod or you're a real pro at dialing in that amp. In fact, I'd venture to say that in the least, you changed tubes and biased that amp or something because it does not sound like the MTS I played. Good sound. Do you have any medium-gain sound clips of your amp?

A few of my http://www.gigmods.com clips... damned cox.net blew up half of my clips, I get to repost them once I get passwords back for my webspace. *grumbles*

(clean modded xtc clip)

(modded vox module)

(module I made into a soldano clone)

(module I made into a mesa mark series clone)

JKD - I swear, your module is on my bench! :)

not my work. It's an XTC modded to a Shiva circuit by Antonin Salva (Salvation) mods...it's one of the few I haven't owned yet :-)

I liked my MTS amps.
But I love the rig I got now.
ENGL and modded JCM 800.
I bought both of them with the money I had when I sold my MTS amp and modules.
So far its been KICK ASS!
Getting great tones that I couldnt get with my MTS.
But I am sure I will be back in the Module amps one day again.
