I think I'm about to pull the trigger on the 45 or 100. Are they something that Mike designed or just a design that Randall already had that Mike tweaked. Just curious and yes I am hoping for Fortin on a budget.

I can tell you that I have played through these amps and the one you list in signature and it is amazing what sort of tones you can get in this price range these days. Customers are going crazy for the RD series right now and I have spent a ton of time playing my RD5 in my home studio.

I haven't gotten in any RD45's yet but the RD100 is just wicked sounding! Holy Moley!

I don't know if Mike designed the whole amp or re-tweaked it. All I can say is that I did not like the RD series last year at all. I didn't even carry them in my store. When I heard the new series at NAMM and talked to Mike about them, I had to sign up as a Randall dealer again after taking 2012 off. Once I got them in, I have been very happy with them. Whatever Fortin did to these amps is enough IMO.

The Diavlo series had already been around for a while before mike came on board. But once Mike came into the picture, he has done some tweaks and mods to the circuit, loop, etc... So they will have some Fortin magic in them. I have not played one in person yet, but from the clips I have heard the new RD series sounds better than the original.

I've been on the fence about one of these too. Haven't been able to try one yet, but am really intersted in the 100. My main interest is the difference in tone between gain 1 and gain 2 channels. Is it just gain difference, or is the tone eq different? Also which gain channel do the smaller 2 channel versions have? Is it comparable to gain 1 of the 100 watt, or gain 2?

I had the RD45, and I can tell you, there's NO better amp on the planet in it's price-range. I had to choose between keeping it, and the EVH 50, and kept the EVH, simply because of the added resonance knob, for deeper bass. But, if you have a 4x12, it's a non-issue - I don't. But, I can tell you, it's a killer amp. I'm actually missing it, and having some remorse. Not sure what your hesitation is, but, you won't regret it! I just didn't want 2 "modern" sounding amps. If you go to MF, and enter code "fallsale13", they drop to $524. ALOT of tone for the coin.

My 45 displaced my Cameron! Killer tone and the cost ridiculous!

I need someone to do a proper demo of the 100 already gat damn it!

Got the evh5150III 50w (mod el34) and the new Diavlo RD100 (mod el34 too), EVH is gone ... (4X12 owner)

You will have to wait for the NATAS and Meathead to hit the market before you get a 100% Fortin designed Randall.

I got the Fortin-tweaked RD 50, because it was cheap as hell.
The 45 is supposedly "better" sounding (subjective and all that..), so I can only imagine it sounds killer and a half!

I posted an iPhone video of the 50 a couple of weeks ago, just do a search for it if interested.

Im probably buying an RD20 and 112 cab next month for a small jam rig and to keep at home for recording. I have yet to hear a clip of that one.

Chubtone, how about a tone vid walkthrough of the 5 watter? I'm also interested in how the tone and feel compares to something like the BE?

How the tone of the $269 RD5 compares to the tone of the $3600 Friedman? I'll give you a hint, it's way better than 1/13 as good.

I will try and work on a video for the RD5.

How's the RD1 combo? Have you played it? How about the RD1 head?

Steve

Son-of-a-Bitch!!!! Ordered the RD100 from MF and it's back ordered. I even paid extra to have it rush shipped.

well played sir! The reason I asked was because the diavlo series really seem to have this juicy mid character to them that I hear with the judge module but without the sharp highs. Am very interested in seeing if the 1/13th gets me in the ballpark of where I want to be. Looking forward to the clips.. if anyone can give us more than chuggalug, it's you

Just last sunday I was jamming my Schecter 006 Elite [Duncan Custom/little '59] thru my Randall RD20 head and sealed Lopo slant 1-12 cab [Celestion GK-100] with a friend, his '90s Ibanez shredder and Marshall JCM800.He was quite impressed by the killer tones coming out the modest setup. An added bonus is how nice the clean channel sounds [love those 6V6's].Unfortunately,not able to do clips at this time.

I have not played the RD1 combo. I tend to never like combos like that when the speaker is so small. The RD1 head is very cool sounding. It is much meaner and more "real" sounding than you expect it is going to be. I only played it into a 4x12 and a 2x12 and it was a lot of fun to play. It was the first of the Rd series amps I got in and I really thought it was going to be a toy. It wasn't though and I waited until I got the RD5H in before deciding which one I wanted to take home to record with. At first I thought the RD1H was the one. It was really warm and compressed and is great for a little practice amp. The RD5H is much more open sounding. It is still gainy and compressed but has much more clarity than the RD1H has. For late night home practicing the RD1 is tough to beat, but for recording the RD5H really translates much better onto the recording. I love the three way switch on both. To the left sounds like a loosely tight old Super Lead. In the middle, it's more JCM800 type tight. The middle position will range from classic, heavy rock tones to heavy modern tones. The switch to the right is the heaviest, most modern. You have to adjust the EQ each time you flip the switch on these little amps. They are single channel and the switch creates a different gain structure and EQ structure. Once you find the sweet spots, if you're like me you will just play and play and laugh every now and then because little amps like this are not supposed to sound this cool.
