Has anyone tried their RD5 + 4x12 cab in a band situation - 80s metal stuff.

I used to have one. I never tried it with a full band, but I did get to try it through my 4x12. It got loud, from what I recall, but probably not full-band loud. It also sounded terrible with the volume past like 2 o'clock, which you'd probably have to crank if you wanted it to even come close.

Thx for the prompt answer! Did u ever record using some IRs?

Actually, yes! I did. It wasn't particularly good at that either, lol. At least not when recording the FX loop send. You can tell they voiced it with lots of bass and treble in the preamp to make up for the puny power section, so once you used it with a standard-sounding IR, it was just too over-the-top. You could EQ it in post to sound decent, though, and if you ran something like a Torpedo that also captures the poweramp section, I bet it'd be better.

In all honesty, I never really happy with that amp. I had the combo version. The stock speaker was attrocious, and the cab wasn't very high-quality either, so even when swapping the speaker, it sounded boxy as hell. It sounded great through an external cab once you cranked it a little, but I found that was too loud for regular everyday bedroom practice. I traded it for the RD1 head version and a decent 1x12, and, for my application, I find it much better.

For some reason, it was kinda hard for it not to sound brittle. I traded it for the RD1 head version and a decent 1x12, and, for my application, I find it much better.
Thx for the detailed answer! Do u think the 1watt version would be ok when used with a 4x12 at the studio?

Yes! The 1W is not as open-sounding as the 5W, but it can still fool the mic into thinking it's bigger than it actually is.

I assume you've probably already heard this demo, but just in case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfan4NB59js
Strange as it may sound, most people who have tried both they tend to prefer the 1 watt version...
