Is this a straight up metal amp, or does it do more vintage-inspired tones as well?

You are joking right?  Everyone has been asking this for months and the answer is always YES. Killertone has got to be tired of us asking the same questions. I think Randall shot itself in the foot with the devil graphics.

I had no clue. This is the first time I've ever come into a thread about this amp.
Pretty sure you're not gonna be replacing your Wizard with a Randall anytime soon. :D

Well, you're right about that insofar as the "replacing". However, I'm always up for "adding" to my current line-up.... ;)

Value for dollar, it delivers amazingly good tones, has the Fortin stamp of approval and for being built oversea's is said to be made VERY well. Tonally, it is supposed to MORE than hang with amps 2x - 3x it's price point. Of course everyones MMV.

Pretty much that.

I honestly think these amps sound as good as many amps that cost 2 and 3 times as much, including amps that I own.

Yes they do more than the super heavy stuff but vintage flavored tones? Not sure what is meant by that...it will cover 70s and 80s hard rock with no probs though. I was even getting some Jimi stuff happening with my Anderson Tele.

He means..does it do a plexi? If you are playing some Jimi, it is prob good enough...

Yeah, vintage means a Plexi tone of the non-modded variety.

I have the 45, to me it's more of a modern voiced amp vs. a marshally modded type tone-plexi i don't think so. Played through my avatar w/V30s it gets Mesa/über tones, less edge through Splawn w/H30s.
Great cleans w/the 6L6s, and loud as hell. Sounds good tuned down, but I usually only go as low as dropped D. I'm not into most new metal, due to screaming singers, and I'm old(46). I previously owned a Fortin tweaked rd50, I like this amp a ton more.

Modern voiced is to be expected with this amp IMHO.

Is it a low-mid heavy amp?

Well, in case you guys hadn't heard enough chugga chugga of this stuff, please see the following!

I've spent 10 minutes with this amp and am remembering how deadly it is. Been since since NAMM since I played the 100 watter...HOLY SHIT!!! This amp is going to change the game. Seriously.

Hey Jason, could you describe the tone of the 100? More high-mid emphasis? Or more low-mid heavy?

I wouldn't say it is high mid or low mid heavy really. The mids are right...in the middle. :D

What I mean is that is that the midrange on this amp sits right where it should. It's probably around 600Hz or so. Not sure what it really is technically but that is about where it sounds to me. The interaction of the the eq knobs is really good and makes it easy to get a variety of tones with simple knob twists. I have been playing with this amp for a couple days now and I have been getting many different tones with ease.

Yeah, when I think of Plexi (I own two metal face PTP Superleads) I think power tube distortion. That is not really what this amp is about. Lower gain 800 type stuff is a total different tone in my opinion. Preamp gain vs. power tube distortion. Pretty different things to me. That being said, I have been dialing low gain tones that sound like they are from the 70s and 80s. I have always said, no matter what the amp, if someone wants a Plexi type tone they should play a NMV Marshall because that is the only amp that will do it correctly. IMO.

I'm a bit picky about mids   I just do not like low-mid heavy amps like the XTC.

I'm really looking forward to your demo

I'd say the EQ is quite good, and "simple knob twists", as mentioned above, makes a difference. It's not a Marshall Plexi, it's a Randall. I'd say, from my experience, it's really close to the EVH 50 watter, (I own both an EVH and RD45H). I bought and sold an RD45H, missed it so much, I bought another. Tonally, I like it more than the EVH, and it's simplicity is a plus. BETTER FX loop, BETTER lead tones. You simply CAN'T dial in a shitty tone, unless you're an extreme novice. Best part is, I got it new for half the price. It's pretty impressive what this thing dishes out for the money. As stated, time, and time again, it truly does hang with amps 2-3 times the price. It's a BEAST! I put Svetlana 6L6's in it today & ditched the Rubys. Tungsol RI in V1, JJ ECC83S in V2, Ruby 7025SS in V3, and Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the PI slot, and it REALLY came to life. WARM, BIG, AGGRESSIVE & PUNCHY!

Gonna have a potion of it where I play a Superstrat and just play an A semi palm muted while I turn the mid knob back and forth. That should do it for you. Actually, I am going to do that and turn all the knobs.

Thanks a lot for doing this, Jason

I actually Twitter'ed Mike Fortin and he said the same thing you did. The mid frequency on this amp is balanced. No emphasis or de-emphasis of high or low mids.

I had the limited fortin modded rd50h
absolutely killer amp
the voicing is a bit too flat for my tastes
I like a LOT of mids, and this tends to the randall "american" voicing, but with all the fortin signature articulation and grind
if it was middier, it would remind me of the diezel einstein
they were pretty much the only plug n play amps I ever played
just impossible to make them sound bad
no mud or hiss with the gain maxed and gain at noon with the boost switch engage is enough to play anything
it's plenty of sustain even in mild gain settings and still cleans up with the guitars pots even with the gain cranked
all the controls are fully usable
I really hope Randall and Mike come up with a british voiced model

Loved your vid on Facebook! I would buy this amp easily!
