Haven't listened to either of these bands in many years.

Stumbled accross the song Metal Church last night and was sucked back in, so I dug out that album

For some reason listening to that album again reminded me of Sanctuary, so I found Refuge Denied and listened to that one too.

I had completely forgotten about these two bands. Glad I re-discovered them!

Anyone else into their stuff?

2/2!
That 1st Metal Church disc is special
I really like Sanctuary, but a Nevermore really takes it up a notch

I was a huge Sanctuary fan in the early 90's! Saw them live with Fates Warning in Oakland and was a fan of both those bands for years. Into the Mirror Black was a great record.

Both bands rock!!!   Nevermore was the SHIT!!!

DITTO

Great band that I also discovered at a Fates Warning show.

Blessing in Disguise & Human Factor have been in my rotation since release.

I still find Mike Howe to be one of the best vocalists I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Wore-out MetalChurch back in the day. Also spent some time listening to one of Sanctuary's cassettes way back as well. I had broken up with my fiance at the time and was in a dark place. That music definitely was a soundtrack for my mood at the time.

For some reason, when I was pondering these bands from that era, another name popped into my head. MALICE! "Chain Gang Woman" was my ringtone for my ex for a while.

Also, regarding Fates Warning, I used to play "Awaken the Guardian" a LOT during the same era that I was first exposed to Metal Church's "Watch the Children Pray". Have enjoyed FW throughout all of its lineups and variations. Got stale for a while, but the last album wasn't bad, and the Arch Matheos album was pretty good.

Saw this tour in Minneapolis. Great tour.

I saw Sanctuary when they open up for Megadeth. I think it was the Peace sells tour. Great show! Not for nothing since this is bringing up old school metal. I caught Death Angel last Wednesday night. Killer show to.

Big Metal Church fan!!! Saw them back in 1989 in Virginia. It was a phenomenal show. They had an opening band called Meliah Rage that was awesome as well. Their album "Kill to Survive" rocked!

Edit - Little did I know that Sully Erna was their drummer for a short period of time!

Malice....they had that one album , I think Max Norman produced it, if im not mistaken. Great guitar sound on that one. Good memory Red Label...almost forgot about that one!

I discovered both around the same time in my formative years. Into the Mirror Black and Blessing in Disguise are still among my favorites. It wasn't until the late 90's that I discovered Nevermore and the notion of Sanctuary kicked up a few notches had me quivering. It was a glorious day when I heard Dead Heart in a Dead World. Sadly, Metal Church seemed to just slip farther down into the abyss with the Titanic.

Indeed! Compressed, but very smooth.

Kinda reminds me of another 80s guitar tone that I always really dug... Saxon's players' tone on the "Innocence Is No Excuse" album. "Broken Heros", "Devil Rides Out", "Rock & Roll Gypsy", etc. Yummay!!!

Very cool...glad to see there are some other folks who dig this stuff

I actually still listen to the first two Metal Church and the two Sanctuary albums pretty frequently.

David Wayne is severely under-rated as a vocalist. He has one of the greatest witchy vocal styles ever. I dig the first 2 MC disks and Blessing in Disguise but beyond that, not so much. Sanctuary was awesome back in the day as well! I enjoy the first couple Nevermore CDs. I saw them on the Politics of Ecstasy tour with Flotsam and Jetsam. Killer show! They kind of lost me as it seemed like Warrel Dane's vocal got more gothic tinges to it and the riffs became less memorable. From what I understand, Sanctuary has reformed. Not surif Warrel can hit those highs like back in the day
