REAL EVH vs Mooer GE200 EVH comparison

In this clip I am running:
Mooer GE200 with just the amp block turned on, straight to the interface using an impulse response.
EVH 5150III preamp out straight to the interface with the same impulse response.

Sorry man, down tuning and impulse responses both neuter tone. So for sake of comparing to a real EVH, it's not entirely true. It's simply compared to a tone sucked EVH

I think for raw files, it sounds pretty spot on (surprisingly). With an eq treatment and quad tracked, that would sound killer. What interface are you using and did you DI and then reamp? I have yet to use my pre outs on my amps, I've just recorded direct and used plugins, but your clip has me intrigued.

I've tried the preamp out direct to my interface with my 5153 before out of curiosity with IRs and what not. It works but you basically lose any dynamics the amp has to offer. My test came out very muddy and bland sounding vs using a reactive load + IRs. If I had to choose between preamp out + IRs vs plugin I'd go plugins or opt for a reactive load box.

The EVH sounds better. There's a certain syrupy stickiness to the single notes when they're released.
The Mooer sounds a tad thinner and flatter overall. But a good impersonation nonetheless.

Yeah, the recent obsession with preamps really ignores the impact of a power amp. Running into a reactive load allowing you to capture the power amp's contribution can make a huge difference on tone. Taking the preamp out never does any amp justice.
