I have owned almost every Top Shelf Amplifier there is worth having,
Diezel: 2 Herbert's, VH4, Einstein 100
Bogner: XTC 101B, Uberschall
Wizard Metal 100, VHT Ultra Lead, Elmwood Modena M90
Custom Audio OD100SE+ Soldano SLO
Engl Steve Morse Sig. 100, Marshall JCM 800 2203

I have enjoyed this Ride to the Fullest, as you would think.
But at the end of it all, I have realized that I didn't need to
spend all that kind of cake to enjoy a Tone that knocks my sox off.
I've been smart about rolling cash and trades from one Amp deal into another,
so I haven't lost my shirt along this ride. I've played all these amps
with Fantastic results in Jam sessions and at home.
I will own a couple of these again and never part with it, like
the Soldano SLO and the Diezel VH4.

What I'm tryin' to get at is......I play a Two Amp Rig in stereo
and my current Rig is a Splawn QuickRod and Peavey 6534+
I cannot believe the Tone I get out of this combination!!!
Remember, I played the Herbert & XTC 101B combination for
a long time, and the Splawn/Peavey combo is "COMPLETELY
KICKING MY ASS" and I'm speechless over it.
Peavey has come along way with this 6534+ series, Great F***in Tones!!
Standing in front of them when they're Cranked up
Can't believe my ears....If I only knew this before.......
I don't regret the Ride one Bit though,
I will have another SLO/VH4 combination again.

Cool. I'm very happy with my rig at the moment, but someday I too would love to own a Diezel.

yup!

big time diminishing returns above the the grand to 1500 range!

maybe a little cleaner with better caps, pots, etc.

or maybe get into more features, midi, etc.

i've know all along some stuff is good enough, but i still went for the ride!

and all stuff is better than my playing!

You have validated my opinion about excessive rigs and turning over gear at excessive speeds.

That kinda makes us brothers, man.

Military Grade Components, Built like a Sherman Tank
Fantastic Amplifiers in every sense of the word.
What I realized, is I can get similar Sick tones
for Thousands Less. Though I will have another VH4
someday soon

I know, Right.
What's up Brutha?!

I realized that running 2 heads in stereo is better than one head and 2 cabs. It seems where one leaves off the other is there to pick up the void. I currently run a Herbert and a Peters Hydra and the combination is crushing to say the least. This, however, will not stop me from buying/trying amps. It simply means I am happy with my current go to rig and I will not be parting with it.

I consider buying amps a hobby for me. If you can break even or make a buck then I feel their is no harm. I have tried a shitload and my gas is pretty much contained. I have 2 more amps to try. Once they arrive I am done flipping for a while.

Happy you found a combination you are really happy with. It feels so good when you can concentrate on playing and not on sound/tone.

Don't get me wrong Bro, I loved my Herbert
/Bogner XTC 101B stereo combination, better
than anything. But for the Literal, Thousands of
dollars in savings playing my current setup, the
Tone/Dollar ratio, it just makes the most sense.
It sounds like a million $ setup for the actual cost.
Know where I'm coming from?

Yep, totally get it. Nothing wrong with it at all. The Splawn is no cheap head by any means and the Peavey's a great bang for the buck. Would love to hear that combo. If I could ahcieve what I am looking for in 2 $500 heads I would be all over it and my wife would thank me. :D If it makes you happy that's all that matters and honestly if you are playing live 99% of the peeps couldn't tell if you were playing a 5150 or a VH4.

That's what I am coming down to as well. Two amps, two cabs. Although guitar-wise, I don't know how much I'd be willing to downsize. I love all of them too much

Yeah the VH4 is just amazing. Easily one of the best, if not the best amp I've ever played. (best for me anyway)

The '94 101B and my buddy's Mark IV are up there too, along with my Friedman recto. If my recto had a better loop it would pretty much cover all the bases enough to not buy another amp.

Yeah, the amp ride is fun but it is also educational. I have learned that I will never own another Diezel as I think amps that cost way less sound every bit as good as the Herbert that I owned. Also, I know that I don't need an ENGL SE or Invader ( I owned both of those, too) to get where I want to be. My amp cost nowhere close to those and it slays them, at least it does for me.

Bottom line is to each their own, and as long as you find your sound, who cares.

Your Shakira thing always turns me on.

I'm glad you've found something you can really dig on. Almost every time I go outside and play my Avenger I'm reminded of why I shouldn't be trying to replace it with a Fortin or a Reeves, because my tone is awesome as it is. My clean tones are lacking greatly, but a stereo rig was always something I had planned on developing.

I will probably be happy with something like my Avenger and a Matamp GT1 in stereo. And that isn't that much to ask. In fact, all that together will be the cost of a single SLO with Depth mod (I won't play - and like - a Soldano without one). So, I'm happy. I'm glad you are, too.

VERY VERY TRUE.......

Grass isnt always greener.......

well....sometimes it is. :D

I'm kind of in the same boat, while i really dig my Diezel,i'm happy as a pig in mud with my Dual Recto that Dave Friedman souped up,i find myself using using it the most and have no reason to change. However,i still have my Diezel, only because i'm afraid to sell it
Guitars too,i use my Charvel the most now,but i always to back to my Horizon and LP.
Maybe it's cause we are getting older? Mature ears? Or because we really don't need big dollar gear to sound good

I bought 3 different amps last year and keep going back to my old MOD100.

I love ya, Reza...  Always 100% solid, devout and fkn committed to his VH4!!

Ya guys, I play the tonequest too, but I've yet to find it all perfectly... Things I can say, I won't part with my VH4S, I won't part with my 20thA XTC. I picked up the Mak 4 as the intermediary to play alongside either of these two amps. I think I've got it nailed...

Bogner 20thA XTC EL34
Bogner 20thA XTC cab

Diezel VH4S
Diezel FL G12K 4x12

Mak 4 pre
Fryette 2/90/2
Fryette FL P50E 4x12 cab

I mean really, who the hell am I to have this much horsepower?!?!?! Beauty is??? They ALL sound fuckin' outrageously awesome in their own way

I have some boutique combos as well - custom wired jobs, 30 watters, their great for cleans, breaks, etc...but they're my side project amps.

Marketing does us RT'ers in. We're suckers for the next best things - I speak from personal experience - something new comes out, automatically it triggers a synaptic relay in my nut that tells me it'll make me a better player, the want becomes a need, the thought becomes an obsession, and then I get [said] item. I only then realize after blowing my jam in unwrapping the [said] item that I'm the same player I was before getting it. I've said this countless times on RT, and for the last while, I always refer to it... Look at what Hendrix did with next to nothing!! Django missing a couple digits!! Brian May, not a fan, but hey, look where his HOMEMADE guitar took him to!! It's not the product, it's the passion...

Peace F*ckin' Out!! :rawk:
V.

I know how you feel. I went through 15+ amps last year and am down to 3 heads, 1-1x12, 2- 2x12's, and a 4x12, and 3 electrics. and will sell one more of my heads and replace it with a Splawn. It feels wonderful to nail your tone and get back to practicing and writing... :)

Hey can you share the set up you have using the two Tc electronics?
How are you set up with the two amps and effects and cabs? Thanks.
Nice looking set up. And I am right there with you on the finished buying amp after amp. Although I have a few tons of gear ......
