Like a lot of guitarists I'm a big Lynch fan and when it comes to Dokken, feel he is irreplaceable in some aspects. I also don't like when bands replace a bunch of guys but know it is part of life and these guys still need to work.

With that said, I came across this somewhat recent video of Dokken and thought it sounded really good! Although Don can't hit some of those notes, he just sang in another range and actually seems like he is enjoying himself:

Sounds good... guitar tone sounds more like george than george these days.

Have heard a lot worse, in a lot of vidz Don looks pissed off and doesn't even try to sing. This isn't the same but sounds a lot better for the engagement and singing in his natural range nowadays...as you say.

Levin is awesome ! Great player and tone. They should play some of Don’s solo (Up From the Ashes) stuff, would love to hear some of those tunes live !

That's what I was thinking!

Playing aside that's some pretty nice High gain Marshall tone coming from a regular old DSL, sounds every bit as good as Lynch's OG Marshall SL/PLexi with a TS808 pedal. I wonder if he uses a boost pedal into the DSL, it would be amazing if that tone is all just DSL w/no boost but doubtful.

The DSL's I've played in the past were pretty tubby in the low end at least on the HG channel.

Check out Georges early tone in 1982

I always loved those old videos of them. So much goodness in there. Don still on rhythm guitar, Juan Crocier before he left for RATT, etc.

I always thought George had alot more gain/compression going on but I guess it comes across as gainier/more compressed when recorded as does EVH.

Here he is at his best in 1987 Back for the attack, and the amps in the rack cases are old Plexi's/SL as he has always said he prefers, and that's what he's using today. He may be stomping on a TS808 or so for solo's but it sounds like a cranked SL/SPlexi with a JB, Custom or Distortion P/U in his original Bengal. While he has a backline of Marshall Jubilee stacks not even turned on.....Typical George,

The audio is pretty good in this vid..... after listening closely he seems to be playing today with about the same amount of gain as he always has IMO.

^^ that's a good recording for sure.. they played with Aerosmith on the permanent vacation tour so those jubes might be staged for them. I think he def running a little more gain here than he does now days... and he plays differently too.

EDIT: just checked it again and those marshalls are snakeskin cut outs- not real amps or jubilees

I remember something some years ago about a TS9 being used along with the Charvels and DSL heads.

I love the original clip 'cause PA's in it and for some reason I've always found her divine!

Just sayin'. :worship:

Sorry, he doesn't get a pass from me. He sounds like shit. Its boring and is missing everything that made those tunes great. Listen, no shame in pushing or being over 60 and not being able to do it anymore. The guitar and band sound great though. I wish George still played with that biting of a tone because he seems to have gone to a looser less top endy tone in the last 10+ years. Still sounds good but just not AS good as the older tone.

I loved Dokken when I was a kid, hell George is the reason that I play guitar. Having said that, I like having Lynch Mob and Dokken, both have 5-10 songs post Dokken that I love, and having two bands, means that I get to hear the best of both. Jon is a KILLER guitar player and nails George Lynch's style to a T.
