Recommend Me A Cab Simulator

I live in an apartment so mic'ing isn't ideal and an ISO box is over kill for my small studio set up,

What would you guys recommend in terms of a Cab Simulator to take the FX send or line outputs of my ADA MP1 or JMP-1 to send to my soundcard? I don't need a load box as such as I'd rather not run my power amp, just the pre-amps

I've been looking at the H&K RedBox etc, but was hoping for recommendations for a hard rock player

Normal signal chain for recording is currently
Charvel San Dimas (JBs) -> Marshall JMP-1 -> Cab Sim out (which sucks) -> Rocktron Intellifx -> Soundcard

ADA Microcab would be a cheap option if you can find one used....They sound really good for being such older tech....I used one for many years successfully....

I used to LOVE this guy back in the day, thought it sounded even better than the RedBox for direct recording, very organic, at least to my ears back then. It has both a 2x12 and a 4x12 option and both sounded great, in fact I could never let it go and it's still actually in my big ole box of stuff. If you didn't live across the globe I'd have gladly given it to ya!

For the money ($249) that Torpedo captor might not be such a bad thing. I know you mentioned you don't want a load box but the captor has a built in cab sim (guitar & bass sims) included... bonus is if you decide to go the IR route later with software cab sims you won't have to spend more on hardware. I had an ADA Microcab II in my rack... it was totally state of the art. In 1994. Analog cab sims suck. Get something that can load IRs if you actually want best in class sound... a Torpedo CAB if you are feeling saucy or Mooer Radar if you want to go budget. Either of those will sound a million times better than some wonky analog thing, easier to use, easier to replace/backup, provide more options, and be more reliable... nostalgia is cool and all but only when there is some actual merit. From those of us here in the future: welcome.

Sorry about that, ignore my post and do what Robotechnology says. I just got my Mooer Radar a few days ago, the built in cab sims are ok and the built in power amp sims + mic'ing + eq + parametric eq are great to have. First test I fired up and adjusted all kinds of stuff but after doing a test recording it sounded almost over processed or something.. similar to the WoS plugin when you turn on too many things and crank all kinds of stuff and then play it again the next day and you realize it sounds like crap. So less is better in my eyes... still need to try loading my own IRs and test it thoroughly, but so far it's worth it, especially since it has a headphone jack. Powered my HD600 cans just fine .

Guys, I think we might be misinterpreting what he wants. He may not use his power amp and not need a load, but he is going to end up using something that can simulate a power amp I would think. In that case, the Mooer Radar is a total no brainer. Other than that, use Torpedo Wall of sound. It is free. Just load whatever IR's you get your hands on and it has power amp modelling.

Stay away from the crappy analog cab simulators. They suck and sound horrible. The only one that was reasonably voiced and actually sounds good is the Suhr cab pedal.

I have never tried it, but the Iconoclast from Neunaber came out last year (or earlier this year) looks pretty cool. I just bought an Expanse pedal from them a few weeks ago and I emailed them several times with questions and they were great. Very responsive and helped explain what their pedal could do and what it couldn’t do (in regards to some of my questions).

This right here! Wall Of Sound is free. If you MUST have hardware grab the Moore. If your open budget wise, hit up Reverb.com and grab a used Torpedo Cab.

If you're just going direct into sound card from the rack preamp you don't even need a physical cab sim. Just get a decent plugin like Recabinet or Two Notes WOS.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna go for the Radar, I like the idea of having the ability to run direct in a box with the same cab sims I use at home!

I've pre-ordered is as it seems to be sold out across the UK till next week!
