Recommendation for a Stoner Rock amp to compliment my JJ100

A friend of mine has a Skyhammer. I've played it a few times, it's definitely on the loose side. It's a cool amp and has it's own thing going on...very thick sounding with a lot of gain on tap.

Whatever amp you want. Why not just try one of these with your JJ’s gain turned down?

I'd love to try a Pharaoh. That's pretty much a staple in the genre. But, there's a difference between amp OD and fuzz.

This is the toanz right here at 5:45:

And this one too!

Vox AC100CPH
Traynor YCS50
Orange OR15 (mic'd to FOH)
Bugera V55 (great amp if you use pedals as you dirt tone)
Bogner Alchemist
Red Bear (russian amps)

Matt Pike explains his setup here, figured why not suggest going to the source ;)

What he didn't explain is that he often had something Soldano hidden in there since the early High on Fire days... Except during those couple of years when he actually used SLO's.

If you look at old photos when he was using Green power amps there's always a Soldano SP77 there. In the last 2-3 years although he used Orange or Marshall stacks he had a Soldano GTO pedal on the floor.

I didn't get close to the stage when I saw Sleep a few months ago so not sure if he uses the GTO live with Sleep though.

Interesting info man!
I'd be interested to see what he's doing live currently as well.

It seems to me that stoner/doom amps are on the spendy end. Orange, Matamp, Green, Electric, none are budget lines. The most cost effective are Hovercraft. Somewhere in the middle are maybe a used Sunn, but it depends on the market too.

Surprising. I thought stoners spent all their money on weed. ;)

It's easier to make bad decisions when stoned.

Re: Hovercraft, I've always been curious on what he actually did on these Jet Cities circuit-wise. He likes to drop buzzwords on how his amps reminiscent of Orange/Matamp/Sunn amps, but Orange/Matamp and Sunn don't really sound much alike in the first place which made me really sceptical of him.

Not to mention that you can probably sound like 2000's era Matt Pike with a stock Jet City...
