I realize it's past the due date on this, but... I listen to a lot of "unlistenable" music: grindcore, trad death metal, etc. Stuff like Noism, Brain Drill, Impetuous Ritual, Portal, as well as Exhumed, Disma, etc. Love Pig Destroyer, Gaza, Ulcerate, etc. etc. etc. Also love a lot of non-metal, Neil Young, Beach Boys, Grimes, Burial, Bardo Pond, etc. Point being, I don't hear the extreme aversion some folks responded with and accusations of non-musicality. My first impression with this record is A: you are a good guitar player, but it sounds like you listen to a lot of Necrophagist, possibly Psycroptic or Spawn of Possession. That kind of super tech, prog-on-meth metal can be interesting, but I've never heard it really work for a whole album other than the first Necrophagist. try to do your own thing with the licks more, maybe. but they are hard to hear because B: the drums are way too loud. I think if the guitar was a little louder in the mix, maybe the musicality would shine through a bit more. The level of the drums in the mix makes it sound really all over the place in a way that doesn't work for me, like there are AM radio shards of sloppy grindcore collaged onto a melodic technical death metal band.
anyway, sorry to hear about your band, been through that before. Hopefully you learned something from it and the next project will be better. Congrats on soldiering through and getting a record done even if the band didnt last. it's a lot of work, you should be proud.
