Recto MultiWatt Slave out

Using the slave out to a delay pedal out to a Fryette power amp and cab and I get a loud low rumble when I turn the volume up on either the slave output or the Fryette output. Its only in modern mode. The other modes and channels are fine. I've tried different effects and different slave amps like the return of another head already. Called Mesa and they are not sure and had me try different slave amps which I did.

Anyone run into this issue?

Doh, you’ve done it now, you’re a marked man....pun intended.

Not sure if this is specific to the MultiWatt or how the Slave out works but:

What if anything is in your FX loop?
What happens if you turn the mix all the way down?
What happens if you just patch the FX loop?

Beat me to it. Let's take bets on how long it will take the SJW Snowflakes to report this thread.

Have you tried replacing V4 the fx preamp tube?

Loop is bypassed. Slave out is tapped from the speaker jack. Unless I’m misunderstanding you.

I'd still check/replace all the preamp tubes just to rule out any potential issues. Even if the loop is "bypassed" hum/noise could still get amplified. Takes minute and eliminates a variable.

Since you mentioned it only happens in lead/red mode (read high-gain only issue)... that would make me suspect a bad microphonic preamp tube.

Page 12 of the manual says:

"SLAVE CONTROL: This 1/4” jack and control provide a signal derived from the speaker jack. Perfect for using either Recto, (Dual or Triple Heads) as a master pre-amp, and additional power amps for more power when needed. Some players use the SLAVE to derive an FX Send Signal and go to other amps for their wet sound."

So based on that I would say the loop is not bypassed. I've heard that low rumble before with mine (Rectoverb) and I'm pretty sure it was either a dodgy preamp tube (v4) or dodgy pedal/pedal connection in the loop that was causing it - can't remember honestly.

The modern mode does some funky stuff, like disconnecting the NFB and some other stuff. I had horrible results trying the modern mode thru a Fryette Power Station. It made the modern mode sound basically like the vintage mode, weird.
Anyway, did you ever talk to Mesa about it? I'm curious to know what they'd say.

I did talk to mesa and was finally able to get it to work. You're correct it is the Modern mode circuit that is causing the issue and is what I figured also since it worked find on the other modes. The fix is to keep the slave level very low and match channel volumes accordingly. I love this amp to death and I've owned a lot of Rectos over the years. Voiced so nice compared to the others. More clarity and highs with a much tighter low end. Mids come out more due to this also.

I showed what it can do WITHOUT a boost.

Thanks Wiz! I want your modded C! But I need to prioritize, like buying more ammo, 20,000 rounds is not enough.

I can identify with such priorities. If you find any deals on 5.56mm please share!

Damn, that sounds good! That UA OX is that good? I have a Suhr RL and use IRs through WOS in Garageband. I think your recording sounds better than what I come up with. Nice. And yeah, the amp is tight enough for a lot of things, especially compared to the older DRs. Still, a lil something up front shaving off the bass and pushing the mids certainly gives it life. Dig the blackout. Congrats man.

Thanks! Yeah the OX is great especially since the new revision update. I agree it doesn’t need the boost but does sound a little better with one.

Glad you got it sorted. I think in 20-30 years the MultiWatts will be sought after like the best vintage stuff is today. Underrated.

Last week I decided to check my stash, I think I only have enough supplies to load another 10K rounds or so. Slacking!!

I dig that riff. :) Always love playing it through my old Marks!
