Rectos can't do Cantrell...

I took some of your advice and uploaded a re-engineered version. To tell the truth I didn't even listen to the song before recording lol. It wasn't until later upon comparison that I found his tone to be so scooped sounding. I can tell by listening that his tone on that track is heavily engineered. Not to discredit him as a musician or his gear, but it's the truth. The new clip should be a little more along the lines. Obviously it's not a screaming marshall with blended tones like his, but not bad considering it's all coming straight from a Recto I think.

I'd like to hear some more saturation and a bass guitar to go along with it. It should really start to shine then. Regardless, it's a very good tone.

For a Home recording........that shit was damn close.
I like it and think it sounds great.

Thanks Code and Mailman!

There should be bass there hah, must have mixed it down too much. I haven't gotten the clip out to my car yet. That's the final test. Take it to the car, it either rocks, or it goes back to the workbench. Fake bass though, sampled and triggered.

Take the song clip, scoop out the mids on one side and lay your guitar in there.

Didn't Jerry use Duals in past? Blended in the studio with other amps?

In 95 when they practiced in the room next to ours at NAFT Jerry showed me his Dual Rectifier (not sure of model)..... "Check this thing out". I have no idea if or when he used it. But he did have one ....

I have been standing next to Jerry many times from the late 80's till the mid 90's when he was playing ..... The thing I always noticed was he sounds like him no matter what amp he was plugged into.

Probably the main difference between those who have it and those who don't. I know that I have a certain consistency in my playing/tone also, but unlike Jerry, mine isn't very marketable.

All these Recto threads are making me miss my old DR. Really wish I had it to mix with my 2204. Recto+JCM800 =

I listened to it again and it seems like it's missing some sag and needs to sound more open. I haven't owned a DR in a year or two but I'm thinking you might be able to get a little closer in tube mode or maybe spongy mode with less gain.

Yeah probably diode and spongy. + more lowend and a C hair more gain. Very easy to get with that amp IMO

Cool, I hadn't thought of putting the amp into spongy mode. The original clip was in tube rectifier mode, which helped the sound a lot. Definitely need a tube upgrade for this amp, the tube rectifiers get fuzzy with a prominent buzz at higher volumes. Kills the Marshall vibe you are trying to dial it for hah.

I dont know....I thought it sounded great!

But I like to play older music with a TWINGE of modern flare!

Buy the CD!

This is "My Version!"

I like yours better then the original. ;)

Thanks Dan. I don't like the playing on this one, but I've got another take in the works that'll blow this one out of the water. This was the 'quick' version, but I'm going to scrap it and do a new version which will be produced up a bit.

If you heard our AIC songs......I think you would like them.
