tar or sleeves or what?
Dig the hole 6” deeper than you need it, so for me that’s usually 42”-48”, then put 6” of pea gravel or river rock in the bottom. Set your treated post in and fill the hole all the way to grade with concrete. I’ve got posts I dug in that way over 30 years ago that are still solid as a rock. Gravel
On the bottom and make sure the concrete is just slightly higher than grade and you won’t have water getting into your post and rotting it out.

I used a lot of this eco-life treated lumber from Lowes on my projects and the leftover scraps I used to stack my woodpile on. I've had pieces down for 7 years of direct ground contact that haven't shown even a hint of breaking down. Meanwhile untreated pieces that were used rotted out a few years ago. Set up the way you are suggesting pretty much makes it a lifetime post short of it catching fire.

A bare cedar post just stuck in the ground has a shelf life of 20 years. I think if you put mastic on the part of the post that's in the ground it would last basically forever too. Other than whatever happens above ground.

This thing has been a miserable experience and I'm so glad it's close to finish. I am finding at 54 that I can't fucking stand carpentry. Mostly because of all the tools required. After I finish some jobs this Summer, I'm going to sell all my big equipment and force myself to outsource projects. I just want to relax after work like normal people.

So I have to make some angled furring strips to level the pool. Put in some foam interlocking padding on the inside bottom of the pool. Drill some 2 5/8 holes for the pool pump hoses, fill the pool pump with sand and learn how to use it. Put the liner in the pool, put the edge around the top pool rim and I'm done. Stairs came out kind of crap. I didn't level the supporting blocks properly between the stringers, but most people wont notice and I'm in the IDGAF stage at this point.

I was gonna tell you it looked great but I didn’t want you to get a big ego. 🤣🤣
Meh, any idiot can do carpentry. I'm just glad it's done. I forgot how much it sucks working in the 100 degree heat. I mean this is not brutal demo work or roofing, but I must have drank like 2 gallons of water one day and I wasn't doing much. But the sun puts you in a good mood. Cold shower, beer and a steak. No better SSRI.

Lots of idiots attempt to do carpentry for sure. Made a lot of money fixing or replacing carpentry idiots did.

The problem around here is that because they paid once to have something done and then have to pay again, they think I'm doing it for 1/2 price. I tip these fuckers upside down and jingle all the loose change out of their pockets.
Tell them to look at what half price got ‘em the first time. 😉

I just hung up my side gig doing handyman stuff today. Thurs was gonna be my last rodeo but they called and said don't worry about it after I texted to confirm. I don't think I'm going to work for other people outside of music anymore.

Funny how people always have the money to get something done the second time
Yep fuck em. I'm about done with this shit. Mostly what aggravates me is finding my tools. Want to put them all in a fucking pile and burn them. I'm probably going to give away 75% of my shit after the end of this season. What I love the most is deck refinishes. I usually charge around $600 to do a 12x20 deck. Power wash, sand and stain. Customer pays for the brushes, tape, anything else and the stain. Have 5 of them to do this Summer. Backed up because of all the rain. One tool required. Well 2. My power washer and a fucking paint brush.
