Eddie this, Randy that. Ace invented this, Yngwie invented that. None of them were a hair on Ted Nugent's loincloth circa 1980...

yea good point
that's right about the time ole uncle ted was getting his dick sucked by a 12 year old courtney love and child molesting another underage girl
TRUE REPUBLICAN

"Out of all the people I will list here, I will feel the least sorry about picking on Ted Nugent, since
Ted Nugent recent went on a rant about "killing pedophiles." It is ironic coming from a man who
admitted on VH1's "Behind the Music" that he was a "serial pedophile" and two of his
relationships (one with his wife and one with “muse” Pele Massa, who was 17 when they
started dating) were ended due to Ted’s infidelity while on the road, often with underage
women. Courtney Love had even stated she gave Nugent oral sex when she was 12 years old.
I guess we know what he meant about young Pele being his "muse." When TeD Nugent got
"Cat Scratch Fever," we can safely assume the cat wasn't old enough to drive, much less drink."

Randy Rhoads deserves his name in history. Great guitar player from the era. He had that chicken fucking thing going on, but whatever, to each his own.

Apparently. Who'd have thought? It doesn't matter. Although I guess if you're a chicken it might have mattered. Dude could play the hell out of a guitar though.

This thread has taken several different turns toward suck.

edward stole the tremolo thing from BECK,..there was no BECK and edward sitting there together ,...BECK as the teacher edward as the student,......edward stole everything he is known for,....including his most recognised trick!,..the tapping thing,... from ACE FREHLEY!!...(there's a clip on you tube showing frehley doing it in the 74-75 era)
dont forget,..GENE SIMMONS tried to promote VH,..made a demo of VH,...shopped it around,..there were no takers,..SIMMONS gave VH the demo,..and said good luck...(speaking of urban legends,..at this same point in time, KISS was in the studio recording ROCK & ROLL OVER...
and as legend has it,..it was edward that played the guitar part on christeen sixteen,..and as every thief does,..none of them tell you who they stole it from,......when VH opened for BLACK SABBATH in the late 70's,....TONY IOMMI accused edward of stealing from him as well!!!.. (GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE in the same time period)

BUT!!,...i will say this,...who here among us has never stolen a riff,..a blue note,...a phrase,..a something from another guitar player?...

I saw RANDY RHODES on the BLIZZARD OF OZ tour,....there was no hype about RANDY,...nobody knew, or cared who the guitarist for OZZY was,...this is gonna sound funny to most of you,..but back then OZZY was considered the closest thing to SATAN since ALIESTER CROWLEY,...not the mumbling,..bumbling,..MTV,..the OSBOURNES,.. we know him for today,...RANDY,..all 5'6" of him came out with that polka-dotted JACKSON (i never even heard of a JACKSON!) and just killed!!! everyone speakes of his "tone",..what he had gobs of was ferocity!! and a style that didnt exist in the electric guitar world at the time,...i saw VH on the WOMEN and CHILDREN FIRST tour,..edward was impressive,..but RANDY was a musician,...edward is guitarist,...i like more peanut butter and less fluff,...i lived the 80's,...and for the most part it sucked!,..well except for the bitches,...

ok,...i know this is a 80's loving,...spandex wearing,.. playing scales as fast as you can to impress other guitarist,...web site,..so i have my asbestos suit on,..ready to be flamed!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Uh yeah...some inaccuracies here...

Randy didn't have a polka dot Jackson...that was a guitar made by Carl Sandoval. Lots of players had tapped the fret board before Ed...even before Ace. I think it's safe to say Ed perfected it in rock guitar. Ace "copied" Ed's solo on Christine Sixteen per Gene...reason being, Ed and Alex had helped Gene with some of his demo's for the album "Love Gun" and they all liked the solo...this was when Gene was helping VH. In fact Gene tried to get the demo's with Ed and Alex released on the Kiss Box Set several years back but did not get permission from Warner Brothers at the time. Most guitarist...or at least the ones I grew up with were completely floored with Randy on the release of the Blizzard of Ozz. In fact everyone I knew hated Ozzy and bought the album because of Randy. He was the next step in the evolutionary chain of rock guitar. We were very aware of him, we were floored by him.

As for the 80's sucking...I guess it depends on one's perspective...Vivian Campbell, George Lynch, John Sykes, Vandenberg, Yngwie, Satriani, Vai, Jake E Lee, Norum, Demartini etc... Never before in my memory has an era produced so many great guitarists.

As for tapping, from what I remember, Steve Lynch and George Lynch (not related) claim to have been doing finger tapping before eddie rose to fame. I remember an interview with Steve Lynch about when Autograph was opening for Van Halen and he was explicitly told not to tap as "it was eddie's thing", so he didn't, except for the last night of the tour.

I remember hearing a story where Yngwie said hi to Eddie at a party once, Eddie was being a prick and told him to fuck off, Yngwie yelled back at him and said "Ey noo fook yoou" and did the Eruption bit with his teeth
Yeah, I'm gonna say that one is pure fantasy, but it is legend…

Steve

This whole story may well be pure fantasy, but I know Malmsteen can do it, 'cause I saw him do it live. Not sure which time it was, as I've seen him live several times. But he did to the fast tremolo picking part of Eruption with his teeth!

Like him or not, dude can flat out play!

I never said he couldn't do it. Never said I didn't like him and never said he couldn't play. I've seen him live as well many times. I just think the story scenario is fantasy…

There's another lame myth of Yngwie being the start of the term "shred".

Ed certainly perfected it in the fact that it became part of his style as opposed to something he did every now and then. Tapping has been around for quite a long time...dating back to the 50's or even later in terms of guitar. Lots of players...Chet Atkins even Brian May were using the two handed technique...heck, the dude that invented the Chapman stick which dates back to the 60's. What Ed did was make it part of his style...and in turn introduced it to the masses. Regardless of who did it first...the door was open but Ed walked through it.

The great thing about what Randy did with it was add his classical leanings and solo compositional skill to it...that was the great thing about both Ed and Randy. One was very off the cuff and spontaneous, the other very thought out.

THIS

Diary, the Tribute and Blizzard albums are consistently on the top of my all time favorite albums lists, but pretty much everything else that has come from Ozzy? Not my thing... Brad, Jake, Zakk, etc are good, hell absolutely fantastic guitarists but none of their work with Oz hooked me as Randy and the Blizzard of Ozz (Could be that's all we have besides a few QR bootlegs and the rest of em have pretty extensive careers, but that's beside the point)

I agree, but it was not just Randy's contribution on those two classics. Bob Daisley played a huge part too in the writing with contributions from a fucked up Ozzy and a little bit from Lee Kerslake. Nothing in Ozzy's solo career can even come close to Blizzard and Diary!!
