I've a Renegate 65 combo (1x12) and I play with a Gibson Nighthawk 2011. I noticed that the tone stack of channels are working in different manner. As example, I set up channel in this way:
I tried to have the same gain in the two channels, with near the same eq.
And I registered (sorry for crappy playing and quality of registration, I used the XLR out of the amp and plugged in with a Thomann XLR-USB connector) the samples attached.
In the first, I use the bridge humb: do you see that the sound, when using the dist channel, is dark?
When using the neck humbucker, it becames muddy, like a distorted woman tone.
After 30 min trying to adjuste the eq, I found that the dist channel sounds "muddy", for any combination of bass, mid, high. To get something closer, I should boost at max the treble, and cut (somewhere between 9 and 11 o'clock) bass and mids.But this way I'm losing the "punch" and the sound became really thin. This become worse when the gain is high.
