installed a nearly perfect matched pair of NOS NIB Sylvania 6V6GTY and biased to 43MVDC to run just a tad cooler. dropped in a Sylvania 5751 in V1, a Bugle Boy 12AX7 in V2, and an Amperex 12AX7 in V3 and deoxit all the pots. the difference is huge. the 5751 in particular smoothed out the front end taking out the 'ice pick' spike on the treble. nice headroom, but still has some grit (although i usually play clean, or run pedals for distortion). running through a custom cabinet with 4 8" 8 Ohhm drivers. sounds like an entirely diferent amp.
thanks again to all who took the time to answer my previous post prior to this. it is most appreciated.
have a great weekend.

Oh dude you went for the gusto!!

Hello yeah, Sylvania tubes are the most 'tubey' sounding of them all.

For cleans especially - there is not a better choice.

Solid decisions on your tube choices, glad you made the change!!

i agree a 100%. in the past i paid ridiculous money for RCA and Mullard power tubes (in the case of the RCAs i paid more than i did for the operating amp they were going into) 6L6s as well as 6V6s- and when i compared these tubes with comparably testing Sylvanias for the difference in cost there was no comparison. at that point-starting about 15yrs ago before prices on NOS were really going up- i started stocking up on some really good deals. i currently have 3 pairs, counting the ones that went in this amp, including a pair of 1953's and 1961s.

I have a Rivera Clubster Royale, basically a Blackface and tweed in one. This particuar amp shines with the RCA 6v6 smoked glass, that being said, quite a bit has changed in my setup, and it would not hurt to do some rolling!

As far as input stages on my particular amp - nothing can seem to top the RCA 12AX7 long blackplates I have in there UNLESS I were only doing cleans.

The BPs are not quite as tubey in the cleans as the Syl but the lead tones are really there for me in a way with the RCAs.

It's cool when you find the tubes for your secific amp and sound. Realy can take your sound to the next level!
