I want to change out the preamp tubes in my 6505 and I'm stuck between Ruby 12Ax7ac5 HG+ and Shuguang 9th gen. I want to go chinese 12ax7 and these are what i've come down to. What in your opinion would be better? I hear great things about both of these tubes.
Also would it be worth it to get a tung sol for V1?
Thanks all :salute:

I did mine with 8th gen S I AM LUCKY TO HAVE A NICE STOCK OF THEM AND THE TUNGSOL AINT BAD IN V1

Ruby 12Ax7ac5 HG are 9th gen as well, but hand selected & tested by Ruby. Great tube in 6505 series, probably the best right now. If you need more transparency/open clean tone go for the Tungsol in V1. If you want something darker/boomy go for a JJ or Sovtek WC

I wasn't a fan of the Tung Sol in V1 of my old 5150II. It was noticeably noisier than the JJ that I usually used in that amp and had a fizzier sound.

not a fan of JJ's in most amps.

my preference for the 5150 is:

v1: shuguang 12ax7b
v2: sylvania 6 holer
v3: effects loop tube, dont really matter to my ears
v4: pi tube sovtek LPS
v5: (the middle tube) sylvania six holer

you can grab those sylvanias on ebay for about 10bux NOS or VOS. great fuckin tubes in any amp.

my buddy runs all electroharmonix 12ax7 tubes in his and it sounds like it has a tad bit more bite.
