Return of the king ! ( Malmsteen)

Imagine him at 70? lol

I'm a huge fan of Yngwie, one of my first true guitar heroes.

To me, it simply seems like he decided to get rid of everything that costs money. He's always been in control, artistically speaking, but getting rid of a live drummer, and doing the vocals himself, were the last straw.

Musically, he really hasn't been any interesting since Fire and Ice. After that, he got stuck on the same style and 3-5 licks - but still, he put out some good records, can't blame him for sticking with a winning formula.

But all the stuff since Attack? mostly just forgettable stuff. Blue Lightning was just awful, especially when you've heard his "Inspiration" album, and know what he's capable of - as far as cover songs go. Dude went from knowing every Purple (and probably Rainbow) tune, note by note, to barely being able to play Smoke on the Water in time. The reverb-drenched production doesn't help much either.

I will say that inspiration was awesome and I thought Alchemy had some pretty killer moments too but that is largely thanks to Boals on vocals. That album to me sort of felt like a small comeback. Like he made an effort. Blitzkrieg was a balls to the walls opening track that ripped your face off. I remember thinking " alright, he's locked in again!". But after that it was back to the usual and then the era of drum VST and reverb. I still feel really offended by the production on War to end all Wars. It feels like he see's a title of a subject somewhere then writes a song for it in 5 minutes and releases it. Drives by "Joe's Garden Centre" and thinks " hmmmmm "In the garden (eden)" - harmonic minor- VST double bass- I'll sing it. Release this shit, best i've ever done!

And FWIW, I feel that a lot of these aging artists need some youthful artists working with them - in the studio, helping the write songs, I don't care - just something.

With the vast majority of artists, the creativity seems to dwindle as they get older. Phoning in the same old stuff, over and over again. And it's probably even worse with artists like Yngwie, that demand 100% control on probably every aspect of writing and recording. I really wish he could try to team up with some young guns, even if only for the studio work, would probably result in much better stuff than what's he's doing nowadays.

That's a good point...but in Yngwie's case, he would pretty much cut everything the younger artists suggested and keep maybe a few lyrics.... then back to the garden centre for more inspiration. " I drive fast...because I can. Do you know who I am? I am the Demon Driver. " Anyway, I'm beating a dead horse..

There are plenty of young guns who can sing on par with any of his past singers, that would sing for a case of beer every night! Money, I dont think is the problem. Also,

Faster than the speed of light
Demon driver
Beauty and a beast
Red devil
Top down foot down
Sun is up top is down

Those are all the songs I can think of that are related to driving his Ferrari's. I guess one song about driving wasnt enough.

Linengrad 89, Spanish Castle Magic.
To look that champion with a Stratocaster on
like a f'n king..yeah right you hosers.
Clearly this Swedish madman feels the fatness of groovy in Jmi.., but displays almost mutant like flurries that would GIVE Jimi a buzz.
Let's see you pull that.
His phrasing is so mind boggling.
I only dig early Yngwie stuff like any of the greats of our timea.
How about some f'n Alcatrazz?

Steeler was pretty good too apart from the shitty singing and sub par songwriting. The riffing and solos were pretty killer.

What would be awesome would be if Yngwie ditched his home studio/DIY setup he always uses and got together with a marquee producer who might reign him in and bring way more focus to an album. Someone like Bob Rock or Rick Rubin etc would be good, plus put together a crack band of amazing players who can obviously play and maybe co-write some stuff. Add in a singer who can do a bit of the old school wailing, but isn't too cheesy too while we're at it.

Obviously he'd have to leave his ego at the door so I very much doubt this would happen!

I don't know, you could puff the shit out of a Yngwie production and he's still going to
play the same damn thing he has for 40 years when the solo comes around.

There is NO market for crusty YJM besides the crusty geeks that already will buy (read youtube) whatever he puts out.

Y-wing is a beast. I saw him 2 years ago when he shoved his Vegas band in a corner and featured his 30 cabinet backline for the main stage.

5 minutes in I wished I was home with pornhub. And I love wingwee.

dream on like steven tyler man

I feel like whatever it was that drove him to become the player he was at 18 years old...he lost very shortly after that. He became a rock star/guitar god and it was a wrap. I still love the very early stuff but anything after that just isn't interesting for me. I still believe he's one of the greatest guitar talents ever.
