Rev.2 and UberKab....INCOMING!!

You won't be disappointed. Just keep in mind it dials in very differently from the Twin Jet!

The EQ on the Rev 2 distortion channel is very unusual, but gives you a very wide range of sounds. Two things any Rev 2 owner should be aware of:
1. Pay attention to how the low end (and mids, obviously) changes as you go from one extreme to the other with the presence knob.
2. For more bite and less sizzle, you can get a different type of high end by turning the treble off and using the mid knob to add bite.

Good luck, I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Pretty awesome.

Off the bat, needs a re-tube. The preamps in there are - to the best of my knowledge - originals from 2001. The powertubes are some off-shoot brand EL34, and I doubt properly biased or at least, they've drifted significantly. There is some hum and noise. All these matters will be easier to determine and sort through once new glass gets installed.

Alright, that said, Ch.2 with all EQ set to noon? Holy shit man. Very instense, very potent, and wicked sounding (as in, a little bit evil and dark). Limited time last night, I'll be at it again today. But thus far, I'm happy with it - just need to get to know it. I can see what the attraction to Ch.2 is

Interestingly, flip-flopping between 1 and 2, the volume needs to be dimed on Ch.1 to even sound within the same ballpark as Ch.2 for audibility; and even then it's really much quieter.

Overall though, the amp is dead mint, the Seller (Adlene) wasn't kidding. I've got limited time to really get on with it as I'm packing my house and all, leaving in 2 weeks. But it's a sweet sounding amp, different than the others and I hope to play it a bit more today in between packing boxes and artwork.

The Presence knob for channel 2 is the key.

Run the channel 1 volume all the way up and use the gain knob as the volume control, works great.

I'm running these:

V1 Tung-Sol RI
V2 Chinese 9th
V3 Chinese 9th
V4 JJ ECC803
V5 Chinese 9th balanced
V6 Chinese 9th balanced

V7-10 JJ E34L or EL34

This combo works, trust me on this.

Coolio. Will play around a bit more today. I love the 2nd channel, and I am 100% positive the new glass is needed. But man, the amp itself is pristine. I'll go with your bottle recommendations for sure, but will do so in a years' time ;)

awesome amps. way better than the twin-j in my opinion.
I'm keeping my Purple TJ, that amp and I have a special bond - and FWIW - it sounds incredible.

Loving the Uberschall groove!!

Thanks Cats!

You'll love it. That combo sounds great. Those V1 and V4 locations open up the sound of the clean channel with those tubes. V1 also improves the gain channel a little.

I won't have time to re-tube this thing, but I am definitely going to get to it upon my return. I can't even try it through the UberKab, as it's all boxed up in my garage and my home is a shitshow of packing right now... It's madness. No sense unloading it when it's getting all loaded.

I'll be keen to get a solid PI preamp installed too. This, a good V1 and great powertubes. This amp is devastating.

I hope to find some time to play it tonight - no guarantees though, I'm in the cyclone's vortex of pre-trip madness

So... where is it?
About 8' behind where I'm typing from.

Today's another packing day. Believe me, if I could say "fuck it" and just sit around playing this thing? I'd happily do so. But instead I'm boxing and packing a massive home, organzing everything, and about to leave this country for a year+ in under 2 weeks. Ad two kids to the mix and it's been hectic.

By no means is this a complaint. Not at all. I'll just be feeling SUMS better once I feel the jet taking off

I decided to join the Rev 2 Club!

I've been reading alot of these threads about the Rev 2 Uberschalls and I decided to take the plunge and buy one myself (#165). Everything that I've read about this amp is true. Crazy Heavy, very aggressive, articulate and downright mean. The guy that sold me the amp was very candid about the fact that the tubes in the amp were old and tired, but in all honesty it still sounds awesome. The main reason that I started looking for another amp was that I really wanted something with a true clean channel. For the past few years I was making my Twin Jet's first channel pass for a clean and it worked "ok" but I really missed having an actual clean channel and kinda need one for the type of music that my band plays. I was pleasantly surprised at the Rev 2's clean channel, despite many posts stating that it was nothing special, I felt that the channel sounded great, particularly when I added some modulation and delays to it. The volume discrepancy was pretty easy to overcome by maxing out the clean channel's volume and using the gain knob to bring it up to be equal to the distortion channel as stated in a previous post. Lastly, many people describe the amp as loose...while the TJ to me definitely feels tighter, I find the Rev 2 to be far from loose. The Rev 2 feels very easy to play in comparison to the Twin Jet and it seems as though the amp expresses what my hands are doing much more accurately. I cant wait to throw some new tubes in it and post a follow up review. All in all, as much as I love my Twin Jet...I think its going to get a lot less playing time.

Welcome aboard!!

SLOGriff and I had another jam session yesterday, and we brought along the Rev 2 and the Twin Jet. We found that Channel 1 on the TJ is very, very close to where to the Rev 2 is. That being said, we both really love both amps. Both bring something different to the table. The Twin Jet is a bit more articulate, has better note separation, and is more modern sounding. The Rev 2 is more organic, midrangey, but evil and darker. Both are awesome amps that are unique in their own way. I wouldn't say one is better than the other.

Welcome aboard!! Can I ask - where'd ya get the amp? What shape is it in? Any pics?

I ended up getting one with stock tubes still in it. They hiss and pop and are noisy as hell, can't wait to re-tube it. But ya, the depth and power of Ch.2 is sick. Ch.1 is alright - I was playing some slappy funk on it the other day and was laughing at the irony of that

My TJ ain't going nowhere. That purple thingy they did to it has made it pretty spectacular. I love it.

Two different amps, two different voices. One Bogner. Cool.

I got mine off of ebay from down in Louisiana. Mine has the stock tubes in it as well...but I dont have the hissing or popping issues that you are experiencing. The amp was described as having some road wear which it does (small minor tolex tears...but nothing to bad). The amp was a bit dirty when it arrived so I pulled everything apart yesterday and spent an hour or two cleaning it up and its looking good now. All in all I'd give it an 8/10 condition now that its cleaned up (I may at some point down the line go for a new headshell).

Im probably going to keep my TJ as well, more for recording and just having some different options, but I really think this Rev 2 will become my go to amp for playing live due to the clean channel. I have a show with my band on saturday and I'm considering tempting fate and using the Rev 2 with the old tubes, and then the following week I'll get it re-tubed. I dont know what kind of other gear you are planning on running with the amp but I have the following pedals out front: Zakk Wylde chorus, EVH phaser, GNI Flanger/Phaser, Carbon Copy and a Timefactor in the loop and I really love how all of them sound with the clean channel. As I said in my previous post...I'm VERY happy with the purchase thus far.

That amp was getting a LOT of press on eBay the other week. I remember when it sold - and here you are. Very cool.

White headshell and metal grille, beauty

That looks sweet. There's been a lot of Rev 2 love recently!

I just got my Rev 2 back from being re-tubed (Svetlana EL 34's and JJ pre-amp tubes) and it sounds incredible. The highs are clearer/crisper, the lows are tighter and it just sounds insane. This amp really lives up to all of the hype!
