I think you folks are doing it wrong or something. I'm cleaning out everything on Reverb and
am having no issues at all selling. This is just the last week!

The real problem here is, a lot of people, (not all, but a lot) are just shitty humans.

Sellers trying to slip one past you, hoping you won't notice/care - then playing dumb when you call them out on the issue.
Buyers wanting everything free, and wanting it yesterday.

This isn't something that's exclusive to Reverb.
Reverb, ebay, forums... they're all the same.
Agree with this. I have been screwed both ways as a buyer and seller - it is people

I had no issues with buying off of Reverb for years, but last year ran into tons of problems with sellers (and I'm done at this point). There is definitely abuse of the "seller protection", I have no doubt of that. You have something that knowingly isn't in the condition you advertise for (and the pictures/description clearly don't capture), you have a "no return" policy, and then when the buyer complains you blame shipping and it goes through the Reverb seller protection. Which means the seller already has all his money, but you wait until Reverb gets around (and that can be a wait) to maybe throwing some dollars your way to make up for it (which may not even be what you want if you want it just sent back as not as advertised).

Reverb customer service as mentioned is nearly non-existent these days, but with an insanely red hot seller's market at the moment (that's going to be one heck of a whipsaw when the party's over which will certainly be coming), no reason for them to change course until someone unseats them like they did to eBay years ago.

I sold a Suhr Strat as mint (it was). The buyer opened it up and visually realized the stock neck pup had been replaced.
He wanted a 100% refund even though I offered to pay for an authorized Suhr dealer to put a Suhr pup back in.
My argument with Reverb was: Are sellers suppose to dis-assemble mint guitars and amps before being able to sell
them as MINT?

Never list something as mint, even if you think it is. That opens you up to way too much BS

Law of averages...chances are it’ll happen to you also. I had 300+ transactions on eBay before my first ‘attempt’ at scamming me. 180+ on Reverb before someone tried to return an identical amp, same model etc but wasn’t the one I sold. No one is doing anything wrong. You’ve just been fortunate that it hasn’t happened to you.....yet.

Exactly.
The more you sell, the more risk you have.
I never had any issues for years until last year.
I decided, f*** all this nonsense and found another way to sell gear.
Think about it, you have no idea who the individual(s) you are doing business with on a computer is coupled with the
administration for Reverb is machine learning algorithms.
So..you're f****d
The bullshit is too thick.
I assume Reverb execs can read and are well aware of our troubles with their site but them algorithms say..?? "Keep going, the humans are getting upset..but numbers don't have feelings".
BOOM!

The main issue here, really, is that sites like Reverb are giving individual people an opportunity to act like a business.

I've worked a lot of retail and can tell you that these issues/controversies/scams/abuse of the system/etc have always been present and continue to happen in the retail industry. The industry has a way of (more or less) absorbing these problems. With larger scale businesses, these problems pose less of a hurdle and with smaller businesses they are more of a hurdle.

But when the business becomes the smallest possible (ie one person on Reverb) the effects of these hurdles are at a maximum. The catch is that the customer side of the equation doesn't change to compensate for the increased stress put on the business. So in effect, these Reverb business models are destined to produce maximum stress. It is only a matter of time before any one seller experiences this (as stated above).

I am in no way condoning this type of behavior, but trying to analyze the situation in a rational way. If individuals selling on Reverb are willing to accept the risks, which are at the extreme end of the spectrum based on my explanation above, then the problem is solved. The reality is that most people are only willing to accept a level of risk that is in line with their general impression of the retail industry, which is usually able to absorb problems to an extent that doesn't ruin the business. In the long term, the weight will fall on Reverb but for now as mentioned, they are banking and there is no end in sight to this trend.

I just got a Friedman Smallbox today. It was wrapped with one layer of bubble wrap, and it just flopped around in the box. One crack on the back panel, and NO POWER CORD. Can't find out if it even works til I get off work.. luckily, the seller felt bad and is compensating me, but DAMN. It's a $2000 amp. Pack it right!

Huge +1 if you advertise as mint, and you sell it to a shitty human, that's an opening for them to fuck you. Straight up.

People are shit now. Craigslist or FB Market Place if I am selling. I will buy off of reverb but fuck selling on there.
Some people are shit, I suppose, but not all; and its definitely not new or just happening now.

There have always been shitty people in the world, there has never been a measure of how many shitty people exist in the world so I don't think there is a plausible argument that the proportion of shitty people in the world has increased. We are all just more technologically connected than ever before. The glory of the internet and shift to internet based business models means we interact with so many more people over a much larger geographic area now than we ever have in the past. We have more exposure to it than ever before, so thank the internet.

Obviously not EVERYONE is shit and there have always been deceitful people and theives, but I find that the coming generations are more of the 'I want it perfect' , 'I want it cheap' and 'I want it yesterday' mentality. Integrity is not what it was. I am not an old man yelling on my lawn, I am in my 30's but look around and I don't see what I used to see.

Don’t blame Reverb. They’re all the same. I’m sure all the people on Rig Talk have Reverb, eBay, etc. accounts!

I do hold some blame for getting rid of the possibility of speaking to a human if you had a question or problem.

Reverb is rewarding people for being dishonest
Exactly.

Which is why I'd rather just deal with you guys here even though I'm kind of done buying and selling. If I can't get exactly what I want these days I just move on to a different tone/tune whatever and GAS is pretty much at bay. But at some point I will need to downsize I guess. When that happens, I'll come here first.

That is the most preposterous thing I’ve heard, someone trying to return an amp that wasn’t yours back to you!! Scumbag!!
