It really does come down to personal taste. I got a Revv Generator MkIII this past week. I think it sounds great, and I like the fact that it already sounds "produced". It means there are less steps involved when recording. I wish I had a KSR Gemini to compare it against though. I'm kind of curious what those sound like.
But...the 120 doesn't have EL34's.
Maybe I can shoot some video's soon where I do Plexi-ish/JCM800-ish tones with my Savage 60.
To my ears, the Savage series seem to definitely have a Marshall as its core DNA. It's not as thick or big sounding as the Invader or SE, but it has more rawness.
That's interesting and good to know. By the way, I changed my mind on the Revv Generator after playing it more. It does sound "neutered" and I feel like it doesn't have enough bite or balls to it. I think the Clean channel is the best channel on the amp. The Crunch is ok, but it doesn't sound very open. I prefer the purple to the red channel, but both sound very compressed and lack a satisfying punch, even though they can get very saturated. Not crazy about the amp's voicing overall either. I'm actually going to return the amp today. Just not a good fit.
I think you would be much better off with the Archon or the ENGL Savage.
I ordered a MTL Mk2 a few weeks ago, but I'm also interested in trying out the ENGL Savage. Does the Savage do anything the MTL can't? I'm trying to figure out if having both would be redundant.

It has more gain, saturation and compression and has more of a "metal" voicing to it. Which are the reasons why I bought it really...wanted something a little different, but was still tight and aggressive. It doesn't punch you in the gut like a Wizard or sound as full/thick.
