Got it the other day in a multi instrument trade and it’s the star of the show. I laughed when Ibanez released them because of the price and being built in Indonesia. I thought Gtfooh. I also have been a diehard Les Paul guy so I never gave a shit about shred type guitars. Well let me tell you something… this is a quality piece of kit. I’m shocked. Great in every aspect. The color is gorgeous in person. It has sd’s previous owner installed as well. I love it. Totally shocked by the quality. I will buy or trade for every single one I can. Ibenhad hit a home run on this fucker. I love it. And this is something that I would never have given a second glance….

Southside Music in Stockholm got a limited edition Steve Vai Jem first run, signed, and an RG550 on the same day.
The Jem was already sold, but we had the opportunity to play both. All of us were impressed with the RG550, and my friend bought it immediately.
The Jem was $1800, the RG550 was $450.

Don’t you wish you could go back in time?

i liked it cause the colors reminded me of Jake and Vinnie Moore. bought it using money i earned at a summer job during my broke college years. $600 in 1987 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,763.83 today so it meant a lot. i replaced the rosewood neck with a killer wide flat carvin ebony, and went OG duncan pearly gates bridge/dimarzio HS-2 middle/duncan classic stack neck and played that thing live for over a decade!

totally by coincidence, i found out my roommate was from Oahu when he was cranking his stereo the first day he moved in and it happened to be a bootleg of an Yngwie concert in Hawaii that i was at!!

he played an Ibby Saber this convinced me to go team ibanez. our apartment was infamously labelled “the metal den” and we would throw down some rather boisterous beer/skate/jams parties every weekend!

This is not a 550, all 550s are made in japan. I believe this is a ibanez rg2xxv 25th anniversary model. Nice score, some of the indo guitars are great!
