There are mistakes...I know, but the layers are what sets him above anyone I can think of that ever picked up a guitar. His ability to compose was obvious.

Agreed, the depth of his playing is amazing. And then to double it. Randy saved Ozzy, there's not doubt about that. Right guy, right time. And I have no doubt either that had Randy lived, and stayed Sharon and Ozzy would have screwed him as well. Clearly though Randy had other things to accomplish, knew that leaving was in his best interest. Sad that he himself, his family and the world didn't get to see that come to fruition. He did leave the music world a little slice of heaven though.

The best part about Randy is how he tripled layers of of guitars that all played different things . Like the flow parts of idk . Just brilliant layers

I've gotten so used to those songs being overplayed I think I ignore the complexity and the extent of his writing and chord progressions. It really does show how I credible RR was though. Especially on the clean stuff. Funny that VH thought he was just another copy. Totally missed the vibe RR was going for. But obviously Ed's playing was also unique and off the charts so no need to play favorites.

Funny how it stands the test of time, the one thing that will rule us all.........

Every year or two I find myself going back over some old RR riffs that I overlooked previously, or half-assed learned when I was younger, and I always discover something I never picked up on before. It never ceases to amaze me how someone so young fit a lifetime worth of guitar clinics into such a small body of work.

Randy use to say he ripped off VH licks in interviews and it seems VH took that and ran with it .

Randy was an amazing player but I put him in a different category than a lot of the hard rock guitarists. He didn't live metal like Dimebag did or have a looser style. He had a very deliberate type of playing and had so many elements of classical, etc. I mean really listen to "Goodbye to Romance". That was the first song they worked on together and it just sounds so non typical. No other guitar player could write Diary of a Madman in my opinion.

I personally think Bob Daisley should get the most credit for saving Ozzy ... he was the one who helped crafted those great Randy parts into great songs... most of the riffs on Blizzard appeared in QR songs and were pretty meh in the context of those songs but together with Bobs help they took on levels of awesome that weren't there in QR

Not to mention Bob was instrumental on first 5 albums

I think Bob certainly deserves alot of credit but not as much as Randy. There's no doubt he wrote lyrics and obviously helped create the songs, he was integral to the process with ideas and melodies but no Randy, no Ozzy. It probably wouldn't have gotten off the ground without Randy, I have no doubt it wouldn't have been the success it was without Randy.
