Rhodes/KSR Orthos Review

@Stealthtastic: Isn`t shared EQ for gain channel an issue? Can you get two different sounds without touching the EQ? I`m tempted by simplicity of Orthos but I like my lead sound a bit different than my rhythm sound. Rhythm needs to be aggressive and punchy but I like my lead smoother with more mids (maybe a tubescreamer would get me there ).
How different are the voicings of Lead 1 and Lead 2?

There are two master settings for the high gain channel. If you flip the voicing switch, you get a different mid structure, and there are separate gain controls for each master too. Pretty much does the same thing as a TS would.

There's also a bright switches for each master on the gain channel I believe.

I like separate tones for rhythm and lead too, but you can do both on KSR amps due to the gain structure. It's not like a Recto where you set up your rhythm sound, and it gets really hard to get a great lead sound out of the same settings.

Yeah the bright switches are cool too. I keep them off for my rhythm tone and on for the lead tone, plus more gain and the creamier voicing.

Glad the amp is killer.

I'm another dedicated Rhodes KSR amp fan. It is down to two amps for me, my old MKII C and a Gemini.

Hard to go wrong with Kyles amps. Just pick the right functionality and focus on playing not gear.

Am I allowed to say that here?

Ha!

I love the sound Keith Merrow gets out of the Colossus on the Top Romulan demo that's on the Rhodes/KSR site. Does anyone know what pickup was in that guitar, what speakers were in the cab, and if there were any pedals in front of the amp ? I just got my first real 7 string (Dean RC7 custom shop from The Axe Palace) and I'm dying to try it with a Colossus.

Ha!

Funny coincidence, I have been thinking about grabbing a Mark series lately haha.

The amp looks amazing but those guitars make me want to punch a kitten.

Haha, I used to hate them when I first saw them too but over the course of 4-5 years they grew on me.

WOW..

Just seeing this.

How is it possible to have an amp like this for 5 months without playing it?

Anyway wow this sounds great. I have been wanting an Orthos for a while. Have you tried the Ares? If so how would you compare?

Madnotez, buy one of the used geminis that shows up from time to time. I just got mine and am blown away by it.

Not sure anyone has gotten an ares yet.

Love my Gemini! Really great sounding/functional amp.

The Ares have been shipping for a while, mine was #2 or #3 in the first batch of 10 and I've had it for about a month. The Ares is killer though I haven't played any of the other KSR amps so can't comment about how they compare.
