i’m good with a rock star wanting it, buying it and putting it to use. ignoring this video’s handheld audio quality, it also sounds just like any old marshall SL circuit of that era.
a stock version of this dialed in and recorded properly in the right player’s hands sounds like:

or a replica of VH’s tweaked 12301 circuit ala :

the main point being both examples i’ve referenced would have been radically more affordable and equally as tone-bearing, yet maybe not as collector cool.

i actually think it would be super cool if RF bailed on the “yet moar gainz” arms race and dialed in some vintage Priest tones with it for the next album!

No way to judge the overall tone with that camera mic whipping all around the room but that's not what the video was about. It's just documenting a cool thing for dudes like us who are into gear. There's no mistaking the plexi snarl it definitely has though. You can hear it doing the collapsing-in-on-itself cat yowl thing plexis do when you crank them. Very cool.

At the very least I think we can all be glad it's going to a good player.

hahaha...go to Guitar Center, you never know what you'll find. I went in there at lunch to get some strings and found our new guitar player in aisle 6. Wasn't expecting that.
Yep!
I paid 3999 for my either late 68 or early 69 SL last yr from the Hollywood GC. They took in 2 late 60s SLs in on trade. Both had the serials cut out. Mine had the cleaner of the 2 plexi panels; no extra holes drilled unlike the other one. It has features that are more 68-ish but also some strange green caps that are very early 69 according to a few Marshall forum gurus. OG transformers.
All I know is this: My 72 SL, when dimed is a bit too wooly for VH stuff, nor AC DC. This Plexi? Dime it and it's early VH ALL FRIGGIN DAY.
I used to believe Ed's amp was modded.
Not anymore.

sounds like a TGP wet dream....

guitar legends, folklore, voodoo mojo, and magic - are worth big money in the guitar industry.

"EVH rested his sweaty hand on this 4x12 cabinet in 1985 for about 20 seconds" - it's now worth 3X the price.

SMH.

A History Of 'Snake Oil Salesmen' : Code Switch : NPR

it's vintage JMP, that's all.

I enjoyed that video and am very glad a player of RF’s caliber got it but it was a mistake to do the grand unveiling with V30s only.
Other than a Jubilee, or early Marshall Vintages from the 80s any V30 with a Marshall sounds horrid. Mid on mid crime all day.
Ymmv.
Greenbacks, 65s or 80s please. Maybe certain 75s.
That's it.

It’s a shame they didn’t take any time to dial it in. Granted those amps have their inherent sound, but could have jumpered and filled it out a little with vol 2 and worked the EQ, beyond everything at 12 O’Clock. I liked its wild, raw tone but it needed a little massaging.
Not sure what camera they used but would think a YouTuber would at least use one of those decent Zoom recorders for something like this.
I bet that amp would rip in a mix after going through the right mics and mic pre.

RF would be wise to invite pop in law Lynch to the studio and do a mic’ed up tone chase through the Priest/Dokken riff catalog!

the angst of messing with ONE OG solder point in a 12k series amp is pretty indicative of this neurotic culture built around vintage gear value.

and a nod to my vintage core lord bro bro Victor/Mojave and his meticulous documentation at 2:30

I wonder if this amp has a 50k mid pot too?
Only Greg Germino knows the exact specs of that amp since he is the one who went through it maintenance wise before the sale. I don't see why he would keep any of what he saw in that amp a secret since it seems most of all the little secret deviations in 12301 have been public for years now.

At least the amp may be played by Faulkner, but he paid for it and he can do what he likes with it. I bet he doubles his money.

Tough crowd here.. I thought the amp sounded incredible. 20,000$ incredible? Maybe not but if you have the cash why not. Also, I like that "chad", he does cool content, is a good player, and he loves gear and rock/metal history. Has some great interviews with players. Very positive guy. ( despite the botox)
