If it's not a modded Marshall, it sucks.

What's a Marshall?
Nothing. Until Friedman, Fortin, or (queue choir of angels) Cameron mods it. Then it becomes the holy grail of all things tone and everything else sucks. Are you not following along with us here?

Bob has been in multiple "cabals" at one time or another.
This is true but he also has the ability to reboot the internet, so you should be careful of what you say :D
He also wears a fanny pack in public though... just sayin'...

Oh.......

yeah I like my Cameron modded Gorilla amp personally. I sent it to him in 82 and just got it back. It smokes!

I'm slacking in my old age. I didn't wear it to NAMM this year. Something is definitely amiss.

That's where he hides the secret of re-booting the internet. He knows that no man would ever think that he would keep such
a secret in a fanny pack, but we know better

Like the reason that Jeff is no longer in Night Ranger?

They booted him because he was coveting my fanny pack.

So... they essentially booted him for displaying bad taste? :D

People often disparage that in which they do not understand.

Right after Bob took this picture, I asked him " was that the dude from Nickelback?"

Ok I really tried to stay out of this thread... but I can't...

So I've been here from day 1 and these are my comments/impressions. If you disagree, meh... Like I said this is MY opinion

1. I don't care about advertising. Doesn't bother me.

2. I don't care about manufacturer forums. It's useful if you're interested in a product.

3. Someone mentioned ass-kissing. It's outright pathetic and a major reason why I don't come here as often as I used to.

4. The responses to posts are predictable and absurd... Thread subject: "Looking for a bridge pickup". The immediate response is BKP, MCP or something else that's the cool thing right now (and costs $$$). Same thing occurs with amps/cabs/speakers. How many times can one hear "Cameron, Fortin, Friedman, Diezel, Scumback, Suhr, etc..."? Ok I get it, folks love them... whatever. It's all over-hyped as far as I'm concerned and maybe it's me, I've been around this shit too long and it's all the same where as others are at a point where they're discovering new stuff.

5. Not enough people posting clips or videos. Without playing, this place is basically nothing more than a store-front. Also, pardon me if I don't take people who don't demonstrate some ability. If I'm supposed to take your opinion seriously, you better kick-ass at guitar. Sorry... I'm not trying to be a dick it's just hard to separate the real-deal from the bullshit. Playing helps me do that.

The flip-side of that is my personal favorite...when someone posts a clip of the Gear du jour. Doesn't matter if they played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star the ass-slapping and high-fiving is epic, hilarious and sad at the same time!

6. Steve mentioned jams, I used to love those... but yeah it's hard to do and it seems that folks are just not that active anymore. Damn shame because that helped people develop chops and actually have meaningful discussions. But admittedly, I'm not sure how to resurrect this because it requires folks to put in time they may not have.

7. Maybe the internet forum as a medium is dead or dying. I'm noticing the same stuff on other forums too. Less actual music talk and more bullshit and lolz...

Anyway... my opinion... if you don't like it... tough shit.

I agree with the large majority of your rant Vlad. You are one of the guys that made/make Rig Talk a valuable forum. You are a voice of reason. You are a guy that knows where the line is between reality and bullshit.

You own (or owned) a Bogner Ecstasy Classic at the same time you owned a Splawn Quick Rod and a vintage Marshall Super Lead. I feel like years ago on here, we would have asked you to post a clip of all three amps and then just picked which we liked better by the sound you were able to achieve.

Nowadays I don't think many on the forum would even need to listen to the clip to decide. The Bogner costs 2.5x as much. It must sound better, period. It must make you a better player too.

And again, the thing that gets me too is that you post a clip using the $200 Peavey Revalver software that had a better, more pure guitar tone than ANY of the Axe FX clips I have ever heard, yet the Peavey Revalver software languishes on music store shelves and the Axe FX has a line that still goes around the block. I think you and I have a similar approach. I'm not stealing money out of my wife's purse to buy gear and it's easier for me to sneak out $200 than $2500. I'll take that same $2500, I'm just going to buy Revalver and a killer mic pre and some mics and some recording software and EZ Drummer and expansion packs. While others are getting an Axe FX and staring at it and saying "well I would make a clip, but I have no way to record"......

Too much all 80's butt rock all the time for me.

Sorry bud, butt you need a new moniker and are a disgrace to the Nigel Tufnel legacy.

In any event, I think you're going to find that most gear/music based forums are going to have a predominant era and/or style amongst the groups. It's up to you to find ones that don't annoy you.

I prefered the hard rock and metal of the late 70's and early 80s and the "buttock" era of the mid 80's is about when I stopped gigging for a while, but along with the bad (like any era) it's hard to deny there was also plenty of good.
