Also, pardon me if I don't take people who don't demonstrate some ability. If I'm supposed to take your opinion seriously, you better kick-ass at guitar. Sorry... I'm not trying to be a dick it's just hard to separate the real-deal from the bullshit.
Sorry to resurrect the dead but I was searching for something else entirely and came across this thread. Having been mostly MIA for the last near year, I thought I'd chime in. For me, there was a divorce and a move and life things that kept me away but another part has been that coming here gives me the GAS big time and I just can't afford it. Ha ha!
But I want to approach what Vrad is saying here just from the perspective of being a relative novice player. It's this attitude that, I think, keeps a lot of new people away or at least in lurking mode and not contributing. Our opinions and thoughts are roundly dismissed if not ignored completely simply because we might not be able to bring it with a master skill level on the guitar. Well I might not have the experience playing to be considered worth paying attention to but I've been
listening to music since I was a child. I know what sounds good, at least what I feel sounds good, which is all anyone is doing, right? Don't dismiss me or anyone else just because we're lesser skilled. That's more than likely why we came here, trying to get better.
Understand, I'm just generalizing here and not looking to start a smack down with Vrad or anyone else. I just think it's a perspective maybe the old timers don't think about. I initially came here looking for opinions. I do all the research I can to find things but I'll always look for someone else's experience just to try and get a decent perspective because I can't just go try everything out. I have to save up and try to make good choices on gear and I'm just a hobbyist. I like Rig Talk and always have, it's one of the best forums to do what I want to do in. The people here are generally friendly and helpful and that's all one can really ask for.
