One of my favorite bands growing up. Wish all the turmoil that surrounded them never happened, as it HAD to be a huge contributing factor to the guys way of life. THoguhts go out to his kids man....that just sucks!!
This really sucks. Jani was highly under-rated as a songwriter, mainly because of Cherry Pie. Dog Eat Dog is one of my favorite all time albums and his writing on that still impresses me to this day. Some of my favorite times as a musician were shows I did with Warrant and Jani was always a gentleman and treated me with respect. He's a good dude no matter what his demons were. RIP my man
What makes it even more tragic is the prominence of "Cherry Pie" in that article. Yeah, I guess that was their mainstream 'hit' but come on - anyone that know anything about real music knows they had a TON of way better songs than that. I second the "Uncle Tom"s Cabin" comment above - what a fantastic hard rock tune!
All that being said, I always kind of dug 'Cherry Pie' for what it was - a cheeky, fun radio tune.
Awe, no way! I was really hoping he had turned things around. Warrant was one of my favorite bands as a kid. Uncle Tom's Cabin and I Saw Red are still some of my all-time favorite tunes. RIP Jani! Too young to leave us, that's for sure.
Just heard. Thats fkn terrible. Awful. Freakin me out a bit he's like our age, man. Not major shredding, I liked the vibrato and some note choices the guitar players put out. RIP Jani
This fully sucks. Jani was an incredible songwriter, I'll second Dog Eat Dog as an amazing album. Anyone that I knew that slagged the band as cheezy hairmetal, I made them listen to that. I always had hope he'd pull through his problems and have an amazing comeback. Rock in peace, Brother Jani. Rock in peace.
Actually, as cheesy as it was, I didn't find Cherry Pie to be any cheesier than the first album. I still thought it had some good tunes! RIP Jani, you had great energy. I thought he had kicked the sauce and drugs though? I guess the shit pulls you back in.
