RIP Neil Peart

Rush is and always will be at the top of the heap for me. Permanent Waves was my first concert at the Hershey Park Arena. My best friend's dad drove us there and dropped us off with explicit instructions to meet him back in the parking lot at a specific time. Unfortunately, that was right in the middle of Neil's drum solo. I could still hear him tearing it up as we piled back into the car and left. Obviously, I never quite got over that.

Rest easy Professor. You and your band forever altered the course of a lot of our lives.

The Genius behind Rush...RIP. My younger brother texted me just 10 minutes ago about this. He'd been fighting cancer for a few yrs now. Will always be thought of as the world's greatest drummer. Just a monster musician...we are all lucky to have lived during the heyday of this enormous talent.

Raise your hand if you "air drummed to Rush songs.

I cant believe he's gone.

He may be the most air drummed in rock history.
This fuckin sucks big time

What a waste, so soon. He will be in my mind for ever what Buddy Rich was to the big-band era is to modern progressive rock drumming fundamentals are today and will be studied for years to come as such.

I think if Neil was in front of me right now we may have a very interesting conversation regarding the fact that right timing, of all things is, the most important factor.

r.i.p. Mr. Peart

This is a little hard for me to put into words right now. Thank you Neil. Rest in Peace.

Ed

i really felt a pit in my stomach when i heard that news yesterday. I listened to so much rush in 2019. Always loved the band, but really re-fell in love with them this year. That rush documentary made him seem like the most interesting man in the world. I think it is safe to say that Neil will go down in history as being untouchable. Everyone else will only be 2nd best to Neil. I never got to see Rush live

I have a friend who might be on suicide watch for a while... he worshiped Peart like a god and has a you tube channel full of rush drum covers: https://www.youtube.com/user/hey7881/videos

Glad i saw them on Presto/Roll The Bones/Counterparts tours a bunch of times. Never disappoint. I'm Spinning 2112 on vinyl right now. candle lit...love Rush...Think about how many rock guys are dicks or scumbags...none of the three ever were. Just great guys. Kinda outta place really if ya think about it.

I did say to some coworkers tonight that oh no...here come all these bands thinking they should cover a Rush Song live to honor Neil. Please Please don't...cuz it won't sound as good.

It's ironic that Neil would have never wanted the World to honor him and miss him the way it is now. It goes completely against his morals.
My Wife studied their lives, mostly Neil. She read and reread all of his books and really connected with him because of the way he lived. Complete greatness with no ego. He absolutely hated being worshiped. He fought for three and a half years and no one knew. No one in his circle would have ever betrayed his trust. I think he had security with him all the time also.

My prayers go out to his Wife and young Daughter. He only wished to spend more time with them. His Daughter is only like 12 years old.
He never really got over losing his first Wife to cancer 10 months after his only child(only 19 died in a car crash). He then took that five year hiatus, and basically rode his bike the entire time.
We lost a great one. I think a band in heaven may have needed him. Every time you hear Thunder it might be him warming up.
I heard him warming up at some of the shows and I always thought, Damn, he hits hard. Being in front of him was simply awesome.

I first saw Rush when I was 17 (I think). They were the opening band and we quite honestly had never heard of them. It was such an eye opening incredible show that I can't even remember who the headliner was. Changed the way I viewed and played music forever.

RIP. A TRUE great has been lost..

What a terrible loss! Incredible musician! I am thankful that I finally got to see them live on that final tour.

A true great and my favorite drummer to this day. RIP.

Exit the warrior.......... :(

RIP Neil
:aww: ;) :D

We should celebrate the man and always remember that the emotional pain we all feel for our lose never will equal the love we have for his brilliant contribution as a clearly innovative forward thinking rock drummer.

Let the games begin . . .
