Rockerverb cutting through?

I'm looking to pull the trigger on an Orange RV50 mki/mkii or a Rocker 30 and I was wondering, has anyone played them in a band setting? Did it cut through at all?

I've been able to hear the amps in person (just me demoing) and I love their tone. I would love it even more if I am able to have it cut live. Currently I have a Mesa Stiletto Ace 50w head. It's a good amp and it cuts pretty well but I'm just looking for another flavor to add. Besides the Orange, I'm interested in Budda amps. I have no doubt that those amps are good in a band setting, having heard them live.

I play heavy/overdriven blues and funk rock mainly (i.e Badlands, Trapeze, Deep Purple, Hendrix, some Alice in Chains). Budda seems to be pretty good at that but I can't get that Orange sound out of my head. I would probably get the Orange as long as I don't get drowned out in the mix.

I think the orange will fit nicely with the types you mentioned. I have a mk1 rockerverb 50 and it cuts fairly well through the mix. I am mostly a Marshall guy so I have to run the orange with the bass very low like 2 max as it can get woofy with bass higher for my taste anyhow. I dig the 6v6 overdrive tones in the mk1 although its not quite as loud as my 50 watt marshalls and the headroom on the clean channel isnt great with the 6v6. the mk2 has el34. Overall they are great amps that really have a nice roar to them and their gain knob range is great and go from slight crunch to all out raunch. I prefer my rv to my old stiletto any day. I have wanted a Budda for a long time but have never tried one in person.

Cool, thanks for info joepete! I only got to demo the mki in person and that was a couple of years back. Would love to put it through it's paces next to a mkii. I love el34's so I'm curious to see which one I'll like better. Although I have heard from people that they sound nearly identical.

Do you know if your 50 watt Marshall is louder than a RV100?

The clean channel isn't a huge priority for me. However, I do like to roll back the volume knob to obtain my clean tones. Some amps don't do that very well.

I had a Rockerverb 50 MkI and it was pretty awful at cutting through the mix... other guitarist was using a Marshall DSL and I could never hear myself over him when I had the RV. Incidentally I have a Rocker 30 here at the house but I'm not in a band at the moment so I can't really comment on anything but home levels.

If you are the only guitar player it will matter less. But with my Budda SD30 I had problems cutting through the mix with 2 guitars. No issues whatsoever with the Shiva.

Maybe I had that Budda set with mids too low, who knows 4 years later?

Loved the Rocker 30 I played in a shop extensively once, really really nice amp. A bit like a TinyTerror but just more of everything than the TT. I'm pretty sure it will cut nicely. From Rockerverbs I would be a bit worried as they sound flubby in bass to me (on clips). Maybe the Thunderverb would be better, as it seems to have more punch and less attack (meaning faster attack) in the lower end.

I used an Orange RV50mk1 for band practice a few years back, which had 2 guitars, bass, drums. I did one gig with the Orange RV50 with another band, but I was the only guitarists. The Orange RV50 is one of the few amps I kind of miss, even though I had some quality issues with mine too. I can currently gasing for an Orange OR15H.

I did have trouble cutting through against the 2nd guitarist who used a mesa mark IV combo. I would run either a closed back 112 with a CL80 or a Closed back 112 with a V30. The cab with the V30 cut through alot better, still not great, but the clean suffered. The Clean was better on the CL80, but that cab is where I really struggled cutting through. So my advice is to use a V30 cab and you should be fine.

For reference I used the following amps with that band, where the other guitarist was using a mark IV and had no trouble cutting through.
- Vox AC30CC1 with alnico gold
- Fender SF Bandmaster reverb through 2 Weber 12A125A's
- Fender SF Bassman through EV EVM-12L thiele cab

I love the sound of the Orange amps, although all of them got lost in the mix in band situation with a second guitarist.

My Stiletto most definitely cuts through in a band with two guitarists. So maybe an Orange could be my different flavor for a one-guitar band. Shivas are cool but I'm worried about being within the same realm of my Stiletto. My goal is to get something to add to my rig that would be a bit different from my Stiletto.

I would probably get an el34 based orange, just because it seems that people have the most trouble cutting with the RV50 mki w/ 6v6's.

Love this demo of the Rocker 30... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7b1qjwWxa4
