羨ましい!! Be sure to take some pics and post 'em up.

Looks sweet as hell, man! What's up with your shirt, though? ほっとけ俺の人生だ I know what it says, but is it a band name or just some random saying on a T-shirt? Also, how was 地獄車 (Jigokuguruma)?

I spent 3 months in Okinawa back in 92/93. I was hired as guitarist for the oldies band The Drifters. We stayed at the Manza Beach hotel. We used to go to some wild places man. There was some crazy shit going on in those bars across from the military camps.

I had my first and only experience with Opium.

Just a saying that I like so I put it on a T-shirt. Always goes over great with the Japanese crowd. My band is called LIBERTY RISK. Jigokuguruma kicked ass. They are still as heavy today as they were few years ago.

A good time was had by all. 10 bands, non-stop music. All the bands were given free access (all day/night) to the beach cabins. Stocked with beer, food, beer, etc.

Oh man, I didn't know you were playing there. That must have been awesome! :rawk: That means that's your band doing that cover of South of Heaven on Youtube then, right? ;)

The Drifters are still around. They play some of the festivals every now and then.

I first got to Okinawa in 1982. It was the wild, wild, east back then. Sort of tame now, but the music scene is still strong. The 3 or 4 blocks that make up the Gate 2 Street/B.C. Street area (Koza) have some greats bands/musicians.

Just curious, why did you go to Okinawa, and why are you still there? Was it because of the military bases? When I was in Tokyo (this year), I really couldn't find any good music bars/clubs. Then again, I didn't really try too hard since I was too busy doing the tourist thing.

There used to be a place called Jack Nasty's that was near Kadena. Some crazy shit went on there. At another place we saw a "banana show" and then down by Camp Pendleton (I think that's the name) we saw a cool lesbian show and that's where I had a drink called a "Rainbow" that contaiend Opium. I hallucinated that night. It was fun time to be 21 years old with no responsibilities! :D

Oh yeah...there was also a club called "The Stage". If you know what that is then I'm impressed. That blew me away.

Jack Nasty's is still there. Ka-chan still does the same stage show he did 15-20 years ago. IMO has the best guitar on Okinawa in his band. I think you mean Camp Foster or Camp Hansen (not Pendleton).

All the other crazy stuff that you mentioned is still here. The Stage, I know about the place but never went inside. Just wasn't my thing.

Hansen was the right camp. I saw a sargent jump on top of a car, shit on the hood and order two of his troops to stick their finger in it and eat it. Those poor bastards did it. They said they would die for him.

We were sitting at a bar one night and a marine was by himself drinking at a table screaming at the top of his lungs "Somebody needs to hit me". He said it over and over until some dude walked over and slugged him him square in the face, HARD. He didn't even flinch. Needless to say I sat there quietly sipping my beer trying to remain invisible.

Is Manza Beach Hotel still there? That's where i asked my wife to marry me. I've thought about taking her back there someday for our anniversary.
