Rookie bias question

Really interested to hear your take and the comparison to the Camerons and Wizards....I know some of the amps you've had/have are hard to beat. When I've heard a Wizard live it sounds similar to what I dial in on my Jube. And the only reason I sold any of the Cameron Aldrich mods is because I liked the jubilee with a boost just as much....and the Camerons were worth more....

That meter will work just fine, it is auto ranging, meaning it sets the correct range including Millivolts.

like baron said, your meter should automatically show the milivolts, you just set it for vdc.

Success! (I think)! The tubes were biased at 60 (per pair) from the factory and I adjusted to 70 per pair per Marshall (and the internet). The amp sounds fantastic!

I think I agree with you here and it's one of the reasons I bought the amp is for that killer modded Marshall tone. Boosting it is key for me and it just sounds so chewy and thick with lots of harmonics. Really glad I grabbed this one. I haven't A/B'ed against the Cameron's or the Wizard, but I know it can hang.

I haven't had the pleasure of a CCV, Cameron Jose/Ocean or a Wizard..even though they are different vibes my 2 favorite tones are boosted Jube and slightly boosted SLO. Let us know how your Jube measures up! They really like V30s and I dig G12 65s best with almost every amp I've had. Didn't like EV12Ls or GBs as much. Glad to hear you like it...you've definitely had many awesome rigs so I trust your opinion.

Thanks! I was using it last night (although somewhat briefly) through two 4x12s. One has G12-65's and the other is a 68 basketweave cabinet with 25 watt bass cones. It sounded pretty damn killer! Might be having band practice tonight so I may be able to switch amps halfway through. I got lucky about a year ago and stumbled upon an absolutely killer Cameron HG Jose modded JMP that just slays. That's my gold standard. :D

The Cameron Jose is the one that comes up for sale the least...more CCVs than Jose's from what I've seen. Love to try one!

I still think Paul (partnz) was nuts to sell/trade it to me. I'm shocked at how bad ass that thing is.

They are secret (meaning I haven't made any yet). haha

Hi!
When biasing an amp (2555x), the volume pots should be on minimum (zero)?

When I bias, I'm not plugged in but long ago I used to try it that way and when you start playing the bias reading shoots way up, so I just stay unplugged. Take the amp off standby and adjust your bias screw up or down depending on what ma is recommended. For instance, a Marshall JMP/JCM is typically biased around 30-40ma per el34 so I set the bias around 36-38 per tube and then see how it sounds. You're supposed to get the plate voltage in order to get the right numbers that you need but if your 34s are between 30-40 ma and it sounds good, you're fine. When looking at your multimeter if you don't have an ma selection MV is the same number I believe.

Your probably don't want to hear this, but it might be a good idea to have a tech take the zap for you.
I see no way to zap yourself with external bias points...

Steve

Maybe thats why they opted to locate the points outside the chassis :dunno: :dunno:

BTW, this amp really impresses me.
There is a video comparison of this vs a quickrod. The Marshall came off much more open and clear. I am a huge QR fan and this impressed me.

Here is the vid, I know its YT, but still.

Ok, there are recommended values written on the amp in mV, between 60 and 80. Once again, the volume pots should be all down and standby off when adjusting the bias, right? Sorry, but I am a real amateur in this area.

Turn the amp off standby like your gonna start playing it. If it's on standby no current will be going through the tubes, they will show 0.0 on the multimeter.
