I remember channel surfing back in high school and coming across a close-up video of a guy tearing it up on a black Les Paul Custom. As I sat there mesmerized, they panned back and it was Roy Clark! How the hell could that fat old guy from Hee Haw be better than me I thought as I cradled my BC Rich   I've been a fan ever since...the guy is simply a monster player and really seems to fly under the radar when talking about the all-time greats.

Enjoy (or not):

This has been posted before but deserves another helping:

Considering my exposure was limited to Hee Haw, as a youngster it was easy to think of him as nothing more than a goofball. I was too young to appreciate the talent. Looking back, it was my loss. It's not my kind of music, but the skill is undeniable.

The same was true for Jerry Reed. I grew up hearing the "comedy" songs they played on AM radio and watching Smoky and the Bandit. He possessed some amazing talent.

total badass. checkout his live in leningrad show. he plays that flamenco peice on a 12 string ovation. he has broken strings wrapped up in his hands and he still tears it up.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! That acoustic clip is inspiring to say the least.

Roy is a master. He has chops for days, and manages to poke fun at himself while handing you yous ass. :)

That's awesome, I'm a huge Roy fan. His first album "The Lighntning Fingers of Roy Clark" sits proudly next to all of my 80's style shred albums

I loved Roy and Buck on HeeHaw when I was young...they always made me laugh....and my oh my those chics' titties were incredible. I was like 6-10 years old watching that show on saturday evenings( i had 3 channels to choose) and I remember thinking all older chics were like that!!! Well, surprise surprise...in MN I only found swamp donkeys..

That's pretty much my exact story as well...3 channels...Hee Haw was the best thing on in its time slot. And oh those titties

Roy very rarely played jaw dropping material on that show though...it was mostly "fluff" as I recollect.

Here is another country badass. I love when he incorporates Jimi Hendrix halfway thru. :)

I've seen Junior Brown several times and he just kicks ass each time. Awesome player and puts on a great show..funny as hell.
Roy Clark smokes too!

Word man. I also had no idea about Jerry. This vid knocked me out. Also notice Chet's little sweeps in there. So cool.

Roy rips, remember watching him on Hee Haw in the 80's before I knew his musical history before that time.

These guys killed. Jerry Reed was awesome and the sweeps Atkins did made me sit up and take notice. I never saw that in the context of country music before. I think I gotta listen to country a bit more closely.

all great players and second to none. search youtube and you will find a chet atkins duo with Jerry Reed and they are sweep/arpeggio picking before it was really noticed and contemporary.

Add me to this list!!
3 channels...but I actually saw the Whole Hee Haw Gang at my local fair back in the 70's......
Even Grandpa Jones! Loved the whole show and looked forward to watching it every week as a kid.

Roy is amazing ... been a fan all my life. Along with all the rest of the people mentioned on this thread. I ran into Junior Brown a few years ago and talked with him almost a hour. Very nice person...:)
