Nice and brutal. I really need a way to record at home. I've never tried the peavey supreme, but going to get another old Randall to run stereo with my Vht at practice. Now I need to look into the suhr rl.

Those Peavey XL’s weren’t bad. I didn’t like the front look, but for solid state sounded pretty good. I had a 5150, and at home used a Transtube Supreme Head. It was like $299 and with the transtube turned all the way up sounded very 5150ish. I actually bought one cuz I saw Soilwork play one live back in like 2000. Sure it was a rental, but it sounded killer.

I recorded this in the middle of the night with headphones as the g/f was sleeping not far away. Peavey Supreme XL > Suhr RL > Focusrite 2i4 > Ableton Live Lite.

The resulting chunk sounds a lot like a mic'd speaker cab to me.

I've owned all of the Supremes going back to the pre-transtube days. I agree that the blackface transtube was very 5150-like, often called the poor mans 5150, lol.

The XL and XXL lean more toward the XXX sound but there is still a lot of 5150 in there too.

Ha! Dude, I've been browsing tonefinder for-fucking-ever and rocking out to your clips. I mean, there's like 3 of us still on there.

I've actually got 3 versions of this clip on tonefinder with different mixes and mastering chains. I did something different with the one posted in this thread, as I used a Tokyo Dawn eq and compressor on the master along with my usual Vladg limiter. Normally I use the regular Vladg eq, compressor, and limiter. Then, I panned one guitar track hard left and the other about 20% right. Or maybe it was the other way around, lol. I also got more aggressive with the hi/lo pass in Nadir.

Thanks errrrrl! I used the IRs you recommended on this one. A combo of Ownhammer HHs, Marshall and Orange, T75 and V30, 57 mic, and of course EDGE and FRED mixed for the chunk. The EMG 81 helped too.
