They blow me away. Geddy's parents, Russian Jews, escaped the concentration camps. Alex's parents, Czech citizens, Dad spent many years in prison for "dissident" crimes. Both pre-teen boys meet as misfits in what we'd call middle school. Bond over music. Much like Simon & Garfunkel, a legend is born. They hook up with a damned good drummer, Rutsey, who completed the trio. FINALLY, they hit a vein the the American market, but Rutsey's health issues keep him from continuing. Enter Peart, son of a farmer. Fucking manic anti-social genius that does nothing but read literature. Geddy/Alex don't quite get it but recognize his ability on the drums and his literary ability and decide he should write the lyrics. Peart, as the "new guy" as he's ALWAYS called by Geddy/Alex, infuses himself into the Lee/Lifeson life line and becomes one with them. Mind blowing! The greatest trio ever.

  You obviously just watched Beyond The Lighted Stage. I been a big Rush fan all my life.

Yo glip22!

I'm a RUSH afficianado for many years. I play nearly every song they ever produced in the studio from: Rush (1974), Fly by Night (1975), Caress of Steel (1975), 2112 (1976), A Farewell to Kings (1977), Hemispheres (1978), Permanent Waves (1980), Moving Pictures (1981), Signals (1982), Grace Under Pressure (1984), Power Windows (1985), Hold Your Fire (1987), Presto (1989), Roll the Bones,(1991), Counterparts (1993), Test for Echo (1996), Vapor Trails (2002), Feedback (EP) (2004), Snakes & Arrows (2007), Clockwork Angels (2012).

You know that the bassist, "Geddy" is not his real name? He got the name "Geddy" because his (God bless her soul) Grandmother had such a thick Polish Jewish accent that she was not able to correctly pronounce his real name "Gary" - so it sounded like "Geddy". Geddy's real name is "Gary Lee Weinrib" – born on July 29, 1953 in Willowdale (North York) Toronto.

RUSH is IMO the greatest Rock/Metal Progressive band that ever converged onto the music scene.

Yeah Paul, watched it again with my Wife for the fourth time in a couple of months. Peart is mind baffling. A savante.

Giddy Geddy.....

I love this band...and I'm really late to the party with Rush. It's really only been in the past few years that I now understand and appreciate these guys and the music!

I think it's cool that Geddy and Alex have been friends and band mates since they were kids. That recent Rush documentary was killer...I watch it everytime it's on Palladia

Big Rush fan. Geddy Lee is one of my primary influences on bass, along with Chris Squire. I play a Rickenbacker 4001, my favorite bass ever.

Needless to say, I'm a huge fan and have not missed a tour since signals in '83

I love quite a few bands, but Rush easily towers above all for me.

Alex made and developed his whole RUSH career around variations of distinctive modes on suspended chords.

There are a lot of great drummers, but Peart tops the list for me. He somehow seems to play 4 different time signatures concurrently on 4 different appendages.Everything he plays just seems like the right thing - you'd be hard-pressed to take one of their songs and make one of his drum tracks better by changing it. I don't know how he does it. I'd love to see his live playing somehow overlayed with a digital click to see just how precise he is. Oh, and if he's slightly in front or slightly behind, it's because he wanted it that way

All three of them are amazing. A few of their albums, where they strayed into some of the more "electronic" stuff, were just so-so for me, but as musicians, they will always have my utmost respect.

The greatest band ever. All these years, still relevant, still evolving. Never compromising or selling out. Their path is a blueprint for any artist who has integrity and wants to succeed.

I'm not a big rush fan myself. Don't know why, I could definitely get really into them-just haven't for whatever reason. I didn't know this background, really interesting stuff. I didn't realize the rush fan base we had here either.

They're an acquired taste. I hated them in high school, but as the years progressed and I progressed as a musician, I got it. Now they're my absolute favorite band, followed closely by King's X. Their integrity and reverence for the music they make is a big reason I like them so much.

Have Rush & Kings X ever toured together, cause that would be unbelievable

Well said.

And yet, RUSH IS STILL NOT IN THE RNR HALL OF FAME!
