Sambora fired from Bon Jovi tour!!!

Well opinions run deep and it's something to gas about I guess... I personally don't give a shit about the individuals or the band. They had some a few toe tappers but I never really cared for them.

I heard from a source very close to the situation that there's not a single accurate statement in that story. I'm now questioning whether or not everything I read on the net is even true.

I can believe that.
Just like anything where the actual story reads like a headline, you have to question the validity of the headline.
I've not read a few more web articles on the story, but most are just parroting the same headline as news/facts.
So far it's just a circle jerk of information lacking sources.

One article is making suggestion that the feud between the two is about how much money Sambora is making, and that JBJ is in need of money so that he can finally have his dream of owing a major sports team.
Apparently, he was interested in a co-ownership of the NY Jets, but then decided he wanted to own a whole team all by himself.
And that's a very expensive dream. With Sambora making 2 mill and 20% of concert profits it's cutting into Jon's take.

If that is true it would be really shitty of JBJ to basically pretend that his career success has been created solely on his talent because Sambora has a lot to do with it. Go over the albums, especially the biggest ones that put Bon Jovi on the super star map, and you'll see that Sambora is right there with writing all those hits.
Sambora has been there from the beginning really along with the other original members.
JBJ wrote and recorded "Runaway" with studio musicians but once a record deal came from it he had to have a band.
Sambora wanted the gig and he and JBJ hit if off as friends and once JBJ heard Sambora play he was in and huge success came a few short years later.

Some people say that just because the band is called "Bon Jovi" that that means more than it does.
Jon knew the band needed a name and someone in the management team suggested using "Bon Jovi" cause it was popular to use last names back then like Van Halen, Vandenberg, Dio, Dokken.
During their heyday Jon always talked about the band as a band not as his band, or him with a backing band.
Like his playing or not Sambora is part of the Bon Jovi/Sambora writing team that wrote the bands biggest hits and albums.

I saw a video or documentary where Rob Halford talked about the "look" they adopted around
the Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine era.
He says he got the look from the gay community and he found it amusing that people didn't pick up on it as coming from there.
And as we know metal bands after followed with that look as being macho and manly.

No RS is like no Michael Anthony in VH. Yeah they move on, most casual fans have no clue - but it's a shame this stuff goes this way. And outside of guitar circles more people would know Sambora than Angus or Alex - just saying

For the record I had no interest in seeing Bon Jovi - but now with Phil X I do. Met him at the Amp Show last year and he is a great player, and a great guy. He deserves the gig and I hope it leads to bigger and better things for him.

The Michael Anthony analogy is an apt one. The public won't notice, but without him it ain't the same band and the songs don't sound right.

Jon Bon Jovi is the boss. Richie's an employee. You do what the boss wants when the boss wants or you find another job.

And that's the problem with arrogant band "leaders", who forget where they come from.
Regardless of how good or not Sambora is, he still WROTE a LOT of the music that brought fame to JBJ along with all that money.
That's far from being just "an employee".
The new guitar player is just an employee playing someone else's music.
Even if he is a great player, he's not going to get to play his own music.


For the record, regarding musicians and politics, I have NO idea what JBJ's political views are nor do I care.
But, I do respect and defend his American right to have them and express them, just like those of you on here who have stated yours.

Yes I guess when it comes to "business" being a friend for >30 years doesn't count. There had to be a time when these two were friends and it came across in the songwriting. Now, if Sambora can't play or sing because of alcohol or substance abuse that's one thing. If he got canned based on dollars and wanting more equal footing then JBJ can choke on a bag of dicks. I guess he has forgotten that he could be a washed up middle age wannabe stuck in New Jersey in some regular joe job reminiscing about that cool band he used to be in in his glory days. That's probably exactly where he would have been had it not been for Sambora's song writing contribution. Oh, well the show will go on and the MILF's will keep attending the shows and JBJ will continue to try to get the crowd to listen to the new songs and the crowd will continue to sit down until they break out Livin' on a Prayer and ...

Well, I saw them without Sambora, so one can say yes... But you could also say it's mainly due in our case the the whole thing was sprung on us 2 weeks before our show (Come on Richie, you couldn't wait to pull this until AFTER the Salt Lake show??)

True, but that's what songwriting royalties are, from what I gathered, the 2 million a month was from ticket sales. Jon was a good guy in this case keeping him on payroll, but Sambora took advantage of that by keeping his full salary and telling the band 6 hours before showtime he isn't showing up and won't show up for another 6 months...

I do totally agree with that. If some these rumors are true, then I think that Sambora is being a greedy diva about the whole thing.
