I have been a fan since I was a kid. Saw them in 2000 with the original lineup and it was amazing. saw them two more times since then and was not impressed. I thought I was pretty much done with them. New music is kinda lame,Gene has turned into a joke with his reality show ect. So they were playing about 30 minutes from my house at a pretty small new venue (2500 seats) My 5 year old wanted to go so we went. I was pretty dam impressed. They sounded great, the show was killer and being such a small venue we had great seats and were able to get right up front with ease. There were lots of kids there and my kid had a blast.I guess they still got it.

So what was different this time around that made it better than the other two shows you went to see? I still think they bring it but i too can't stand Gene. He's such a joke.. and with all his talk on never getting married and women this and institution that, looks like he is breaking down and proposing to his wife if that stupid show of his holds any truth to it..

I remember seeing them in '96. I think it was their first time out doing the makeup again with Ace and Peter. Probably one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Went to a cool pre-show barbecue where a bunch of us got make up done. My avatar is a dead on image of myself on that day. I just couldn't do it now with a guy "playing" Ace.

In '96 it had such a huge impact on me because it was still the height of the anti-rockstar. Everyone dressing down and being anti-flashy or "real" as they thought. I was so tired of it and to see Kiss, exhibit what it could be like again was so inspirational. It was a fucking rock show!

so was tonight the original line up or someone else ? i havent kept up with kiss in years

Why were they playing such a small venue?? Was a corporate event or something?

The original lineup is long gone...

Saw them in 77, 79, 83. In 83 they lost the make up and I gave up. Went to see them in 96, it was good, the 98, 2000, 2009, 2010. They seem tired now, but still a good show.

Awesome! I have some live dvd and I thought that Tommy guy on guitar did a great job and had great tone too. I think I read he used JCM900's.

Saw them first time in '76 with The Nuge opening, in full Great White Buffalo mode. Ronnie Montrose was there too, w/o Hager but still good, playing the first 2 Montrose albums with a sound-alike singer. Kiss were the Gods of Rock Theater to me, and the combo opening of Deuce/Strutter still gets me going. Ace's Les Paul caught fire during his solo!!! Gene breathed fire and spit blood!!!! Paul's voice was fantastic, he was (and is) ever the consummate Rock Star, killing with his vocal performance, song after song. It was outrageous, and my teen brain loved it.

I saw them a few years later, and their backline on both sides of the drum riser (and I mean RISER - during Black Diamond) was a 6x6 array of Marshall 4x12s - 72 "cabinets" in all. The visual effect was unbelievable - the stacks essentially ran up to the lighting trusses. I swear I could hear the guitars coming directly from the cabinets and not just the PA. The crushing volume and raw aggressiveness of their playing was completely over the top. Now that's Rock 'n' Roll.

There are only two guitarists that ever really inspired inspired me to be a "Rock Star" (and I don't mean guitarist) - Ace, and Jimmy Page. Well, I'm not a "Rock Star" but what the heck, You Can't Always Get What You Want . . .

Matt

I saw them last summer and it was amazing. Big outdoor festival, but stood front row from the morning on to see Kiss at night :). And I totally love the new music as well. Can't wait for new album.
Have some amazing pictures as a result:

my buddy has a KISS themed motorcycle. They are playing something called Rockfest here in the WI area...his dream has always been to meet the guys and have them sign his bike. Well he is getting half his dream, they are going to present his bike to the guys and try and get them to sign the bike.

The bad part about it, is that his band is booked elsewhere and he can't be there to meet them. But he is still stoked as all hell. His bike has one a ton of awards and been pictured in several magazines.

He has his own signature Duotone head from Hughes & Kettner.

Also...Paul is using Engl now.

I love the show, although I haven't seen the last seen or so. The fact is that Gene is over 60. I mean, so what...at what point is he allowed to change his mind? Most of it is schtick anyway. He is more normal than most people. I think that most people that dislike him would have a different view from watching the show. I am am shocked that you dislike him from watching the show...  I have liked KISS since I was a kid, but I really don't consider the Tommy lineup Kiss. Eric and Bruce were the last Kiss for me, before the reunions. Once they started to put the makeup on Eric and Tommy, it became a KISS tribute. Might as well get Mini Kiss or something to open...or the one that has the Dave Chapell look alive as Paul Stanley.

I have been a KISS fan since I was about 7 years old and I'm 41 now. I have a "KISS Room" (translate man-cave, guitar room) in my basement and dress up like Gene Simmons on Halloween sometimes. :) I have seen a handful of shows since they reunited in 96' and all of them were awesome with the exception of the 3D "Psycho Circus" tour. It just didn't translate right.

I know alot of people would love to have the original members there forever but unfortunately it is not going to happen. Tommy Thayer is a great guitarist and actually has a bit of history with KISS. He was in a KISS tribute band for years in the 80's and 90's, was a "stage manager", etc. for the reunion tours, and actually threw together the KISS documentary when they got back together. Eric Singer was with them when Eric Carr died so he has been there before.

I don't know how much longer KISS can keep touring but their last record was really good. Unlike Psycho Circus, I can actually listen to it without a revolver to my head. :)

Hell.........Been a big Kiss Fan since the 70's....
Ace is the reason I play guitar....well him and Angus Young! :D
But We "ALWAYS" throw in a Kiss tune in the Jam session....its a MUST HAVE every weekend.
Did "Uh All Night" the last couple weeks. Love that band!!! ;)

Many wig companies and black metal bands should be very grateful for KISS.

Now let's start an Unofficial Rig Talk Poll :

Who was worse hair ? Gene Simmons or Donald Trump ?
