Saw the Winery Dogs last night!!!

So I saw the winery dogs last night in New Brunswick, NJ. It's my first time seeing them... they did not disappoint.

Although, they kind of seemed "off" during the opening number(elevate). Portnoy threw his drumstick and missed catching it. Then the stage hand threw him another, but overthrew it. Mike just about missed coming back in. Then a song later, one of his cymbal stands just fell over. It was like amateur hour!!!

Buuuuut.... just a few moments later, they tightened it up and were on fire for just about the rest of the night. Portnoy is such a fantastic showman.

Kotzen absolutely blew me away... it's my 5th time seeing him live and he brings it every single time. I honestly think that he's one of the best guitarists out there. Also, he has such a fantastic voice. It's just nuts!!!!

Anyway, fantastic show!!!
 
Awesome man. I'd love to see them. Their disk has been one of the better albums I've heard in awhile.
 
Was just playing their cd in my truck yesterday. Just dig these guys. Tried to see them in Vegas last fall but the show sold out quick. Glad you enjoyed it. :thumbsup:
 
I tried getting tickets for that last night they were sold out :(

I went to some music store with a friend in Edison he was trying to trade his jcm 900 for a guitar. One of the guys who worked there told me they were playing in E. Brunswick. I went home to look for tickets and there weren't any left :aww:
 
theyre playing tonite,not far from me,but i hafta work. :(
 
Just my opinion, but as talented as these guys are as individual musicians, the song-writing is pretty weak. I much preferred Black Country Communion for this super-group type thing. It's too bad they broke up.

I borrowed a BCC disc to listen to..totally disagree. Love Bonamassa but the vocalist...ugh. I know he sang for Sabbath right? Anyway the Winery Dogs disc is MUCH better for what I like to listen to..YMMV.

I totally disagree. The song are really strong and memorable.
 
Saw them Friday night in CT. I agree that the songs are very memorable, especially "Elevate," "I'm No Angel," "Damaged," and "Six Feet Deeper." I'll echo the sentiment that Portnoy can't catch his sticks. All three were very entertaining to watch and listen to. Richie's an ace. The dude can play, write, and sing. He's the definition of a triple threat.

Cool. Also, that new song "Oblovion" is just killer!!!
 
Gotta disagree I love Glenn Hughes but BCC not great songs and his new band with Bonham isn't much better song wise .Nothing memorable for me anyway. The Winery Dogs are amazing best cd I've heard in years. Love to see them live

I will give Winery Dogs a better listen, but the couple songs I've heard didn't do anything for me. The first two BCC albums are amazing, the third was not as good, by that time Glenn Hughes was doing all the writing and Bonamassa phoned in his parts because it didn't seem they were getting along anymore.
 
A friend actually got us tickets to see them in June. I am really looking forward to this.

I felt the same way, love Portnoy from his DT days, but the Dogs never really did it for me.
 
Sounds like Portnoy could use a lesson from Rikki Rocket on how to twirl and chuck the sticks? Maybe he is not use to sitting back on the groove and not throwing in a kazillion variations... so now he throws his sticks around to compensate.
 
I liked WInery Dogs a lot and saw them live - great show. BCC was weak song wise I thought. Not enough hooks to get me into it. Pretty dry. For my money the Doug Pinnick / Eric Gales band thing they did a year or 2 ago was better than all.

I will throw in with ya...album wise. Maybe the live show is different?

They seemed like a "upgrade" version of foo fighters, which I am not a fan of. It's not that it's bad...it just didn't strike me. But I've become a bit of a wimp apparently because I think the newest Wishbone Ash is completely awesome. :aww:
